"The message of the Mahdi, as conveyed by the Messenger of God, Muhammad, from God Almighty, begins with the spreading of knowledge and the establishment of proof; then afterward, the earth will be purified of the wrongdoers. This is consistent with all divine missions.
Shaykh al-Sadooq says in Al-Amali, page 731:
'Muhammad ibn Musa ibn al-Mutawakkil (may God be pleased with him) narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abi Abdullah al-Kufi narrated to us, from Musa ibn Imran al-Nakhi, from his uncle al-Hussain ibn Yazid al-Nawfali, from Ali ibn Salim, from his father, from Abu Hamza al-Thumali, from Saad al-Khaffaf, from al-Asbagh ibn Nabata, from Abdullah ibn Abbas, who said:
The Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) said:
'When I was taken up (on the Night Journey) to the seventh heaven, and from there to the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary (Sidrat al-Muntaha), and from the Lote Tree to the veils of light, my Lord—majestic is His glory—called to me:
'O Muhammad, you are My servant and I am your Lord. Submit to Me and worship Me alone. Rely on Me, trust in Me; for I have been pleased with you as My servant, My beloved, My messenger, and My prophet; and with your brother Ali as a vicegerent and a gate. He is My proof over My servants and the Imam for My creation. Through him My supporters are distinguished from My enemies; through him the party of Satan is separated from My party; through him My religion is upheld, My regulations are preserved, and My decrees are executed. Through you, him, and the Imams from his progeny, I show mercy to My servants, male and female. And through the Riser among you I shall fill My earth with My glorification, declaration of My oneness, sanctification, exaltation, and praise. Through him I shall purify the earth from My enemies and bequeath it to My devoted servants. Through him I shall make the word of those who disbelieve in Me the lowest, and My word the highest. Through him I shall revive My servants and My lands with My knowledge. To him I shall reveal the treasures and provisions by My will, and I shall make him privy to secrets and inner hearts by My intention. I shall aid him with My angels so that they may support him in executing My command and proclaiming My religion. That one is truly My guardian, and the guiding one for My servants in truth.'"
