🌿 NURSERY HERB KITCHEN 🌿

To extend on Nursery 2's interest in nature, the Educators set up an outdoor herb kitchen!

The children were invited to explore a range of different herbs, including parsley, coriander, mint, and chives.

The children used their senses to interact with the herbs and used play to investigate and explore nature and their natural environment.

Ready for Take Off! πŸ›«

Kindy 2 have been extending on their dramatic play through an airport experience. From purchasing tickets and working behind the check-in desk to creating their own security scanner and boarding the plane, the children brought their ideas to life with their imagination.

Dramatic play supports communication, social skills, creativity and problem-solving while helping children make sense of the world around them.

Junior Kindy have been exploring loose parts play using go-kart wheels and bamboo planks in a variety of creative ways. The children worked together to construct car tracks, investigate cause and effect and even used the resources as measuring tools to measure each other's heights.

Loose parts play encourages creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration as children explore the materials in their own way.

Home is where our family is 🏑

Our Kindy children have been creating their own family portraits, carefully placing their drawings inside handmade pop-stick houses. This creative experience encouraged children to reflect on the special people in their lives and to express their ideas through art.

MAGIC MILK 🌈πŸ₯›

To extend on Kindy 2's interest in science, the educators set up a magic milk experience. The children interacted with the milk and detergent while observing the instantaneous chemical reaction.

This experience introduced early science concepts such as chemical reactions, colour mixing, and cause and effect, while encouraging children to observe, predict, and discuss the changes they noticed. It also supported curiosity and scientific thinking through hands-on exploration.

Last week, Toddler 2 celebrated Reconciliation Week by exploring playdough alongside Aboriginal symbols stamps. The children really enjoyed looking at the different symbols and were curious to ask what each one meant, which led to conversations about Aboriginal culture and storytelling.

Some children made cookies with different symbols pressed into them, while others rolled little balls, made long snakes, caterpillars and millipedes. Through this experience, the children are building their understanding of culture, respect and connection to the land we live on.

WEEKLY GROCERY SHOP πŸ›’

Recently, the Kindy 1 Supermarket was set up, giving children the opportunity to extend on their dramatic play interest through a shopping experience. The children took on roles of customers and workers, using different resources to support the real-life situation. As children scanned the groceries through the checkout, some even added their own β€œbeep beep” sounds to match the scanner, helping bring the dramatic play experience to life.

πŸ–€β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ€ At Green Leaves Early Learning, we’re proudly All In for National Reconciliation Week 2026 πŸ–€β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ€

From 27 May to 3 June, we come together to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day.

Reconciliation starts with all of us, including our youngest learners. Through moments of curiosity, storytelling, music, art and connection, children begin to build understanding, respect and a sense of belonging.

Because every small conversation, shared experience and learning moment helps us to build towards a more inclusive future, together.
