On Wednesday morning we had the pleasure of bringing our Entrée Recruitment and Entrée Early Years clients together for a complimentary breakfast event — Thriving with Challenges and Change — at The Terrace Hotel.

Our guest speaker Vicki Newbery delivered a truly engaging session on evidence-based approaches to mental health, resilience, and sustainable performance in the workplace. The kind of conversation that sticks with you long after the coffee's gone cold.

Thank you to everyone who joined us — we hope you left feeling inspired and ready to take meaningful steps towards wellbeing in your workplace.

Why is tummy sleeping in the first six months especially risky for babies?

While babies may seem to sleep more soundly on their tummies, this deeper sleep actually comes with hidden dangers. Tummy sleeping reduces a baby's natural arousal responses. These arousal responses are an important protective mechanism and are essential, especially for infants during the first six months when risk of SIDS is highest.
Tummy sleeping significantly reduces arousal, that's why experts strongly recommend placing babies on their backs to sleep.

In early childhood, staffing isn’t separate from quality — it is quality. When teams are stretched, the effects show up in relationships, routines, staff wellbeing, and the overall experience for children and families.

That’s why we think the conversation needs to move beyond “Who can cover this shift?” to “How do we protect continuity, consistency, and care?”

If your centre is rethinking how staffing supports quality, this is the conversation worth having.

This week is Infant Mental Health Awareness Week and this year's theme — Attunement — is one that every early childhood educator will recognise instantly.

Attunement is what happens when you notice a baby's cues, respond to their emotions with warmth and help them feel truly seen and safe. It's the quiet magic that happens in early childhood settings every single day — and research tells us it's one of the most powerful things we can do for a child's long-term mental health and development.

To every ECE educator showing up with care, patience and presence — we see you. What you do matters more than words can say. 💙

Frequent waking is biologically normal and plays an important role in supporting healthy growth, and brain development. While broken sleep can feel exhausting, implementing safe sleep practices helps to protect and nurture your baby during this important stage of development.

Create a safe sleep environment for your precious little one by:
• placing baby on their back to sleep
• using a firm, flat sleep surface
• keeping the sleep space free from loose soft items like pillows and toys
• sharing a room, not a bed
• responding to feeding cues day and night

Waking often isn’t a “bad habit” - it’s newborn behaviour designed to keep babies fed, regulated, and safe as they adjust to life outside the womb 👶

Play isn’t just play — it’s how children learn best.

Through play, children develop confidence, creativity, problem-solving skills and strong relationships with others.

In early learning, every moment of play has purpose — even if it looks simple on the surface.

Because when children feel safe, engaged and curious, learning happens naturally.

As National Reconciliation Week comes to a close, we take a moment to reflect. 🖤💛❤️

In early learning, reconciliation starts with the little things — listening, learning, and creating spaces where every child feels a true sense of belonging.

This week, children have explored stories, culture, and connection to Country in ways that are meaningful and age-appropriate. And while the week may end, our commitment continues every day.

Because reconciliation isn’t a moment — it’s an ongoing journey.

Always place baby in a safe sleep environment for every sleep, day and night.
