Rising Sun Pictures helped bring The Bluff to life with a mix of large-scale environments, action-driven effects, and invisible VFX work designed to seamlessly support the story.

From integrating live-action boats with fully CG ocean simulations to building expansive cliffside environments, the team tackled complex challenges around scale, lighting, and realism—delivering more than 65 shots across 10 sequences.

We’re excited to introduce our second intake for the year as we begin a new trimester, marking our eleventh year of delivering world-class VFX education. This year also continues an exciting new chapter through our partnership with Adelaide University.

We’re welcoming students into 3D Animation and Creature Effects as they begin their training with us and take the next step in their creative careers.

We’re currently recruiting for a range of senior contract opportunities at Rising Sun Pictures, all with immediate start timeframes.

2–3 month contracts:
• Senior Look Development Artist
• Senior Modelling Artist
• Senior Rigging Artist

5–6 month contracts:
• Senior Animator
• Senior Compositor
• Senior FX Artist

Due to the short-term nature of these contracts, commencing in June 2026, we are unable to consider applicants without working rights in Australia or those not available to start immediately.

Rising Sun Pictures is proud to announce Jason Billington’s appointment as Creative Director within Pitch Black’s global studio network.

Jason joins fellow Creative Directors Javier Roca (Pitch Black/El Ranchito), Brian Kubovcik (FOLKS) and Phil Prates (FOLKS), strengthening an exceptional collective of creative leadership across the group.

Bringing extensive experience from leading studios including Industrial Light & Magic, MPC, Weta FX, and Rodeo FX, they have collectively contributed to Academy Award- and BAFTA-recognized films, Emmy-nominated series, and multiple VES Award-winning projects.

In his role as Creative Director, Jason will serve as a senior creative partner across development, bidding, and production - working closely with filmmakers and studios to define visual strategies, unlock innovative solutions, and foster deeper creative collaboration from initial concept through final delivery.
