da Vinci Decathlon State Champions π
When academic excellence, creativity and teamwork come together, incredible things can happen!
Competing against 70 schools from across Queensland, our Flinders students delivered an outstanding performance at the recent State da Vinci Decathlon, with both our Year 9 and Year 11 teams placing in multiple subject areas.
Congratulations to our Year 11 team who finished in 1st place overall. π
The da Vinci Decathlon is one of Australia's most challenging academic competitions, testing students across ten disciplines including engineering, mathematics, science, English, art and poetry, code breaking, chess, cartography, ideation, creative producers and legacy.
Success in the Decathlon is about more than individual achievement. It requires students to think critically, solve complex problems collaboratively and leverage each other's strengths under pressure.
Congratulations to all our da Vinci students. π

Year 1s Turn Plastic into a Whale of a Masterpiece π
This term, our creative Year 1 students explored the impact of plastic pollution on our oceans and discovered how everyday actions can help protect marine life.
Inspired by the incredible recycled sculptures of the "Washed Ashore Project", students collected reused plastics from home and transformed them into a spectacular humpback whale artwork. Along the way, they learned how artists can use creativity to raise awareness about important environmental issues.
The project has helped our youngest learners develop an understanding of sustainability while celebrating the humpback whales that are such a treasured part of life on the Sunshine Coast.
A huge thank you to our families for contributing recycled materials and helping bring this ocean-inspired masterpiece to life. Great work Year 1s! π

ποΈ Pitching ideas to the Mayor? Just another day in Year 7 Humanities and English!
Today, Sunshine Coast Mayor visited Flinders to meet the finalists of our Year 7 Mini Mayor Election Campaign.
Throughout the term, students explored the concept of liveability, researching their local communities and developing persuasive campaigns focused on making the Sunshine Coast an even better place to live. π
Taking their learning a step further, students developed persuasive election campaigns and pitched their ideas as candidates for Mini Mayor. Their campaigns focused on real community challenges and showcased creative thinking, strong communication skills and a genuine desire to make a positive difference.
It was fantastic to see our students sharing their ideas with Mayor Natoli and engaging in meaningful conversations about leadership, community and the future of the Sunshine Coast.
A big thank you to Mayor Rosanna Natoli for taking the time to visit and encourage the next generation of Sunshine Coast leaders. π

Over the past few weeks, our Senior Primary parents and carers have had the opportunity to step into the classroom and experience Learning in Action sessions alongside their children. π
Our Year 4 and 5 students proudly showcased their learning through a range of specialist lessons. Year 5 students shared experiences from Music, Japanese and Technology, while Year 4 students welcomed visitors into their Art, Wonder and HPE lessons.
Meanwhile, our Year 6 students presented their Impact project journey so far, taking on the role of aspiring politicians to deliver persuasive speeches on real community issues. Through their exploration of Australia's democratic system and the application of Design Thinking, students developed thoughtful and realistic ministerial proposals focused on causes they are passionate about.
These sessions provided a wonderful opportunity for students to share their learning, confidence and creativity while giving families a firsthand glimpse into life in Senior Primary.
Thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us this term. We loved welcoming you into our classrooms and sharing the learning journey together. π

Year to RISE - Learning Beyond the Classroom π
Earlier this term, our Year 9 students stepped beyond the classroom and into the real world through their four-day Bush, Coast and City tours.
Across each experience, students encountered real challenges, connected with inspiring people and explored how individuals and organisations are working to make a difference in their communities.
Back at Flinders, the learning continued at the RISE Conference where students were challenged to reflect on what they had seen and experienced. Rather than simply identifying problems, they were encouraged to think deeply about how they might contribute to positive change.
A key theme of the conference was the concept of the βeveryday heroβ. This is not someone with superpowers but someone who notices, cares and takes action.
The problems seen, heard or experienced by our Year 9s can be the key focus of their upcoming RISE projects, which will be showcased to our community late in Term 4.
RISE is about more than travel, activities or presentations. It is about developing thoughtful, capable young people who are ready to engage with the world around them and make a meaningful contribution.
Next week, our Year 9s continue their Year to RISE journey with a day dedicated to Character and Citizenship.
