We’re proud to announce that for the first time, UNSW has been named Australia’s number one university in the 2027 QS World University Rankings.
UNSW ranked 19th out of 1504 institutions worldwide and is the only Australian university in the top 20.

Aimed to gain an understanding of how Australians view history, a UNSW Canberra survey found that an overwhelming majority of Australians are interested in and value history.
Lead researcher Dr Nicole Townsend said it was valuable to have data that underscored the public’s interest in studying history.
“More than 80% of people believe history is relevant to society today and 85% agreed that an understanding of history could help to avoid repeating mistakes from the past.”

As the Pacific cyclone season comes to an end, recent events in Papua New Guinea and New Zealand are highlighting a shift in cyclone risk.
According to UNSW Canberra researcher Dr Difei Deng, this season shows growing concern around rainfall, flooding and post‑landfall impacts - not just wind damage - particularly in regions that don’t usually consider themselves cyclone‑prone.
These insights underscore the importance of adapting disaster planning to evolving climate risks.
