📝More about the fund
The New Futures Mobility Fund supports eligible humanitarian visa holders living in Australia to participate in recognised STEM conferences, symposia and similar professional events in Australia.

Grants of up to A$5,000 can support eligible registration, domestic travel and accommodation aligned to event dates, helping remove cost barriers to presenting work, meeting collaborators and building professional visibility.

A win for science 🌟

From 2027, Australian scientists will have access to the world’s largest research fund via association to Horizon Europe – something we’ve been advocating for since 2024.

“Access to Horizon Europe is a win for science and is the result of sustained leadership, diplomacy and advocacy efforts by the Australian Academy of Science and other research sector allies,” said Professor Sam Berkovic AC Academy President.

We congratulate Science and Industry Minister Tim Ayres and the Government on concluding negotiations.

This is good for Australian science.

Good for European collaboration.

And good for building economic resilience in both regions.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Professor AO. Richard and Academy Fellow Professor AO FAA were named Australians of the Year for their pioneering work in melanoma research, and when Professor Scolyer was diagnosed with incurable brain cancer in June 2023, it was that same research Professor Long drew on to develop a series of world-first treatments.

Professor Scolyer inspired a nation through his bravery and belief in the power of science. In an open letter published following his passing, he left us with a clear message: the best way any of us can make a difference is by funding science.

Our vision for reconciliation is one where the contributions of First Nations peoples to scientific knowledge are respected, recognised and celebrated.

Since 2019, the Academy has proudly supported outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander PhD students and early- and mid-career scientists.
