❤️🖤💛 Celebrating 50 Years of Deadly this NAIDOC Week at MLC 💛🖤❤️

This year’s NAIDOC Week theme, ‘50 Years of Deadly’, marks half a century of recognising and celebrating the voices, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In First Nations communities, “deadly” is a term of high praise — meaning excellent, powerful and inspiring — and reflects the strength, resilience and leadership of generations who have shaped the NAIDOC movement.

At MLC, the week was intentionally designed to bring this theme to life through celebration, learning and connection.

Students took part in activities that highlighted culture and creativity, including face painting, hair braiding and the creation of a vibrant sand mural. A traditional dance performance by Wesley College’s Moorditj Mob provided a powerful expression of storytelling and cultural knowledge, while a friendly Students vs CCGS volleyball game and student-led stalls fostered a strong sense of community and shared celebration.

These experiences created meaningful opportunities for students to engage with Indigenous perspectives, honour cultural traditions and recognise the ongoing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples — reflecting the spirit of “deadly” in action.

Thank you to all students and staff who contributed to such a vibrant and respectful NAIDOC Week.

A day of inspiration, creativity and storytelling with A.J Betts 📚

Last week, award-winning Australian author A.J Betts visited MLC to work with Years 7–12 students in a series of engaging sessions exploring the craft of writing.

Students took part in author presentations, explored her acclaimed novel 'Zac & Mia', and gained insight into how real-life experiences can shape compelling fiction. Senior students participated in an ATAR writing workshop, while others joined creative writing sessions designed to spark imagination and strengthen their narrative voice.

Her broader body of work, including 'Hive', also highlighted her distinctive approach to powerful, voice-driven young adult fiction.

This visit reflects MLC’s ongoing commitment to bringing contemporary writers into the classroom, supported by our Teacher Librarians and Library Services team, who play a key role in enriching English learning across the College.

Thank you to A.J for such a generous and engaging visit, and for the impact she had on our students.

Cross Country success across MLC 🏃‍♀️

It was a standout day for MLC Cross Country, with both our IGSSA and JIGSSA teams competing at Alderbury Reserve and delivering impressive performances defined by determination, resilience and tremendous team spirit.

Battling cold, wet and muddy conditions, our Senior Years athletes rose to the challenge at the 2026 IGSSA Championships, securing 2nd overall in a highly competitive field. Strong, consistent performances across all age groups, including Year 8 and Year 10 finishing 1st in their divisions, reflected the depth and strength of the program.

Our Junior Years students embraced the same challenging conditions at the JIGSSA Cross Country Carnival, supporting one another and giving their all across every race. Their efforts culminated in an outstanding 3rd overall JIGSSA team finish.

Across both competitions, this was a true whole-of-team effort, supported by the dedication of coaches and staff and the commitment shown at training throughout the season.

Congratulations to all runners for representing MLC with pride 💚

Head to our stories for a full rundown of results from the day, as well as highlights from Cross Country across Term 2.

💜 The Power of a Needs-Based Scholarship - Be Part of It Before 30 June 💜

One opportunity changed Ann's* story.

A needs-based scholarship made it possible for her to start at MLC in Year 7. Now, she's in Year 10 - growing in confidence, finding her people and embracing every opportunity in front of her.

When her family found out, her father described it as a moment of "hope and relief". Reflecting on her time at MLC so far, she says "it's been the beginning of the most amazing years of my journey".

This is what a needs-based scholarship can do.

And right now, there is another girl hoping for the same chance.

With 13 days left until 30 June, your tax-deductible gift can open our gates for her.

Be part of the reason she walks through them 💚

🏆 GOLD for MLC’s The Chordettes in the 2026 Western Region School Quartet Contest—congratulations on an excellent performance 🎶

Photos from Methodist Ladies' College's post 15/06/2026

Music came to life last week in a powerful celebration of commitment, progress and performance 🎶

Students from Years 6–12 took part in the June Music Concert, sharing the results of months of focused practice and quiet persistence. Regular performance opportunities like these are central to music at MLC – building confidence, shaping stage presence and giving students the invaluable experience of connecting with a live audience.

Audiences enjoyed performances from the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony Strings, Symphony Orchestra and Barbershop, alongside a series of impressive solo performances from our Year 12 musicians.

Behind every performance is a great deal of care and intent. Thank you to our exceptional Music teachers and tutors, whose tireless work behind the scenes makes these experiences possible. And to our students – for the early mornings, late afternoons and many hours of rehearsal driven by a genuine love of music – we are incredibly proud of the commitment and discipline you bring to your craft.

Congratulations to all performers and thank you to our families and community for your ongoing support 👏
