HUMANITIES // Year 9 English Humanities Excellence and Platinum students recently visited the State Library of Queensland to strengthen their research skills and explore the rich collection of historical resources available to historians.

During a hands-on workshop, students investigated online archives, historical artefacts, ebooks and traditional texts as part of their inquiry into the experiences of Australians during World War I. They also had the opportunity to photograph fascinating artefacts to support their research.

From wartime propaganda and the conscription debate to the experiences of First Nations peoples, migrant communities and women, students are exploring a range of perspectives that shaped Australia during WWI.

The excursion was a fantastic opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of history through authentic research and discovery.

REPORT CARDS // Semester 1 report cards for students in Years 7–12 will be emailed to parents and carers on Friday 26 June, Week 10, from 9:00 AM. Families are encouraged to ensure their contact details are up to date and to check their junk folder on the day in case the report email is redirected.

Parents and carers are also reminded that they can view their student’s academic progress and live results at any stage through Daymap.

CAREERS EXPO // Last week, our Year 10 students headed to the Brisbane Careers & Employment Expo at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

With universities, training organisations, employers and apprenticeship providers all under one roof, students had the chance to explore the range of options available after schooling.

Students heard from professionals about what different careers can involve, from hands-on trades and employment to further study.

It was great to see students making the most of the day, asking questions and coming away with plenty to think about as they consider their next steps.

REMINDER // As the term draws to a close, maintaining healthy routines during these final weeks helps students stay engaged until the final day of term. Flu season impacts attendance and can disrupt students’ learning and progress.

If your student is unwell, please inform the school. By working together, we can reduce the spread of illness and help students stay connected to their learning.

Please email [email protected] or telephone the student absentee line on 3379 0290 if your student is unwell.

FEX // Corinda Football Excellence made the most of our home ground advantage against Cleveland, finishing our second home SPL fixture of the year with four wins from five matches.

⚽ Junior Boys: 6-1 WIN
⚽ Junior Girls: 12-0 WIN
⚽ Intermediate Boys: 1-4 LOSS
⚽ Senior Boys: 5-0 WIN
⚽ Senior Girls: 3-0 WIN

Throughout a demanding Term 2, our students have carried themselves with the standards, effort and professionalism of a team well beyond their years.

We now look forward to a short break from SPL before resuming the season next term.

Congratulations to our Team of the Round recipients and thank you to our sponsors and school community for continuing to support our Football Excellence Program.

BASKETBALL // A big week on court for our Open Boys at the CBSQ Wildcard tournament.

Corinda came away with three strong wins, testing themselves against quality opposition and staying competitive throughout the tournament. The boys stayed composed under pressure, worked through tight contests and kept finding answers in big moments.

Corinda remains firmly in the frame for a late call-up to the CBSQ Shield event, while the squad now turns its attention to Gala Day at the beginning of Term 3. The team will look to qualify for the Metro Finals and continue building on a strong week of basketball.

Thank you to Motorama Ford for their ongoing support of the Corinda SHS Basketball program.

VET // Science came to life for more than 100 Corinda State High School students during the first practical sessions of our laboratory skills and scientific sampling programs, delivered in partnership with ABC Training.

Students investigated soil infiltration rates at our Smart Farm, tested water quality across the school (with the RIC building's bubbler crowned the best-tasting!), and conducted hands-on experiments in our Science laboratories.

These practical sessions give students valuable industry experience while completing the Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement and Certificate III in Laboratory Skills.

Thank you to our Science and Vocational Education and Training teams, and the ABC team, for helping our students explore exciting pathways in science and laboratory careers. πŸ§ͺπŸ”¬
