Last week, students in years 5-6 were challenged to watch and communicate using only Auslan for the first 15 minutes of their Auslan class, with the goal of working towards full Auslan language immersion by the end of the term.
This means no spoken English β€” just visual attention, signing, facial expressions, gestures, repair strategies and lots of thinking in Auslan!
Using more immersion helps students build confidence, follow signed instructions more quickly, and rely less on English to communicate. It also gives them a better feel for how Auslan works as a visual language.
On their very first try, A3 smashed the goal by reaching 41 minutes of Auslan immersion! What an amazing effort.
Now the challenge is on… which upper primary class will be the first to make it to full lesson language immersion?

This week, C3's busy little bees were buzzing with excitement as they began exploring the concept of area. Working with a partner, they used Unifix cubes to cover the surface of their homework folder and discovered that area is all about measuring how much space a surface covers. It was wonderful to see our hive working together, sharing ideas and making sweet new maths discoveries!
