Our K3 children have been learning about Matariki, the cluster of seven stars that signals the Māori New Year. Together, we discovered that Matariki is a special time in Aotearoa New Zealand to remember loved ones, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future.
The children had so much fun learning the names of the Matariki stars through the Matariki Macarena before admiring a beautiful photograph of the seven stars, captured this year near Miss Nikita’s childhood home in New Zealand.
Inspired by the sparkling night sky, the children shared their ideas and created their own stunning starry night artworks, using their creativity to celebrate this meaningful cultural tradition.
Learning through culture, creativity and connection.

As we come to the end of a wonderful week, we'd like to reflect on the meaningful experiences our children shared while acknowledging NAIDOC Week 🖤💛❤️
Throughout the week, the children explored Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures through Dreaming stories, art, traditional games, music, and hands-on learning experiences. These opportunities encouraged curiosity, respect, and a deeper appreciation for the rich histories, cultures, and traditions of First Nations peoples.
A big thank you to our educators for creating such thoughtful learning experiences and to our families for supporting us throughout the week.

We are so excited to share that our beloved ducks, Love and Flash, have safely made their way back home after their unexpected weekend adventure! 🏡✨
We know many of our children (and educators!) were worried about our feathered friends, so it has been wonderful to welcome them back to the centre where they belong.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who shared our post, kept an eye out, and offered their support. Our community truly came together, and we are so grateful for your kindness and care.

As part of our NAIDOC Week acknowledgments, our children have been exploring the rich meanings behind Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander symbols and the important stories they tell.
After learning about a variety of traditional symbols and discussing what they represent, the children ventured to Bush Kindy to gather natural materials. Together, they carefully ground these materials to create their own natural paint, connecting with the land in a meaningful and hands-on way.
Using their homemade paints, the children thoughtfully recreated some of the symbols they had learnt about, sharing conversations about their meanings and the stories they represent. This beautiful experience encouraged creativity, curiosity and a deeper appreciation for the world's oldest continuing cultures.

🌿 Honouring the Beginning of NAIDOC Week 🌿
Today, our Kindergarten children marked the beginning of NAIDOC Week by spending a meaningful morning at Bush Kindy, acknowledging the beautiful Country on which we learn, play and grow.
Together, we explored traditional Indigenous games, gathered around a fire to make delicious damper, and took time to appreciate the native trees, plants and animals that make our Bush Kindy such a special place.
These experiences provide wonderful opportunities for our children to develop a deeper understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, while fostering respect, connection and gratitude for the land that cares for us every day.
This years NAIDOC acknowledges 50 Years of Deadly 🖤💛❤️
We look forward to continuing our learning throughout the week, listening, sharing stories, and celebrating the world's oldest continuing cultures.

Today our Kindy Zone came together at Bush Kindy around our yarning circle to build a fire, share ideas about what they wanted to explore throughout the day, and enjoy some delicious food together.
To top it all off, the children and educators joined forces for a friendly game of tug of war—K1 & K2 vs K3! There were plenty of laughs, teamwork, encouragement, and a whole lot of fun. Let the games begin!
