After a successful summer sport season as captain of water polo and vice-captain of swimming, Ashton (Y12) has been selected in Australia’s U18 squad for the World Aquatics Men’s U18 Water Polo Championships in Rio Maior, Portugal, running from 27 June to 4 July 2026. This is the second world championships Ashton has been selected in while at Joeys, having represented Australia in the U16 championships in 2024. We are very proud of Ashton’s achievements and look forward to cheering him on in the upcoming championships.

Exchange students Taye and Umi from St Henry’s Marist College in Durban, South Africa spent their final few days at Joeys this week. They were farewelled at our Headmaster’s Assembly last week, where they delivered a heartfelt goodbye and had the Joe-Boys on their feet, performing traditional South African cheers in true Joeys style. Their words reminded us how a short exchange can lead to lasting bonds and how powerful it is when young men from different parts of the world share the same Marist spirit. As Taye reflected, Joeys became a second home and Umi spoke beautifully of the brotherhood and support he found among Joe-Boys. We are grateful for the joy, energy and generosity they both brought to our community. From the rugby sidelines to the classrooms, dorm life to sightseeing, they embraced every part of College life in Sydney and the “outback” with their host families, the O’Haras, Tonkins and Humphreys. Thank you to Taye and Umi and to St Henry’s for the gift of this exchange. You will always be welcome back at Joeys!

Since its beginning in 1881, the generosity of Old Boys, their families and friends has played a defining role in shaping St Joseph’s College. The facilities, programs and opportunities that make the Joeys experience so distinctive are the enduring legacy of this remarkable community. Providing a full Joeys education takes more than tuition fees alone. The SJC Foundation, through initiatives such as the Boys from the Bush Bursary program and the Indigenous Scholarship program, continues to change lives, foster opportunity and enrich our community. Each contribution reflects a shared commitment to ensuring future generations of Joe‑Boys can thrive. From the first note to the final bow, the Music Gala Evening unfolded like a living symphony, with each student’s talent and musicianship on full display. The Farrell Auditorium came alive with performances that lingered long after the applause faded. With many highlights, the memorable evening included the Senior Vocal Ensemble singing “In Flanders Fields” and the creative beats of the Jazz Improvisation Ensemble as they played “Blues by Five”. Yet another example of the many talented musicians and teachers at Joeys!
