What a truly special weekend. πŸ―πŸπŸ§€πŸ‘

Over the weekend we had the privilege of delivering our second annual Bees & Cheese Experience as part of the Scenic Rim Eat Local Month at Towri Sheep Cheeses.

Across four sold-out sessions, we zipped up the bee suits, lit the smokers, answered countless questions and invited our guests to experience the incredible world of honey bees from the inside of a working apiary. There is something magical about hearing the gentle hum of a healthy hive and seeing people fall in love with bees for the very first time. There was also a more sobering moment. One of the hives on site had succumbed to Varroa mite and small hive beetle, providing a real-life example of the challenges beekeepers across Australia are now facing. While it was difficult to see, it sparked meaningful conversations and helped everyone better understand why protecting our bees has never been more important. Thankfully, the remaining hives are still fighting on, reminding us that there is always hope worth working for.

We finished each experience in the Towri kitchen with Carolyn showcasing her sensational 'eweghurt' and 'pecorino', along with an incredible selection of artisan cheeses from Scenic Rim producers, topped off with local refreshments, celebrating not only our bees but the amazing food and people that make this region so special.

To everyone who joined us, thank you. Your curiosity, enthusiasm and support mean more than you know. We hope you left with a deeper appreciation for bees, beekeepers and the vital role they play in putting food on our tables.

And the fun isn't over yet... if you still need your bee fix, come and say hello at the Scenic Rim Winter Harvest Festival in Kalbar this Saturday 27th June (please check the Eat Local Month program for details). We promise we'll bring the buzz! πŸπŸ’›

We're so proud of our newest venture ALVΓ‰A Australis. Since growing these products from our 'Bee You' range, to now stand strongly on it's own, we couldn't be more proud! πŸ’›

For those of you who have been following our journey, you may recall our very first product was our 'Bee Balm', and honey soon followed.

For our new supporters, our history; We first entered into beekeeping because our daughter was born with eczema and we tried so many products, and eventually landed on raw honey as a helpful calming product to help ease her irritated and inflamed skin.

Fast forward 13 years later, and we have grown our natural skin care from one balm, now into a variety (43 or so) gorgeous bath, body and skin care products to cater for the entire family, including pets! πŸ•πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸŽ

This hive was thumping just a week ago.

Despite intensive management for Varroa and Small Hive Beetle, we genuinely believed it was going to pull through.

Today, it's gone.

That's the reality of beekeeping in Australia right now, this is one of the many examples. Even with constant monitoring, treatment, and intervention, losses are still happening.

Nothing feels safe anymore.

But we refuse to let this defeat us.

We will rebuild
We will be resilient
We will create unity
We will ignore the negative white noise
We will continue to educate
We will continue our work with industry and beekeepers
And we will not play victim to this awful incursion

Bees deserve nothing less. 🐝🐝🐝

The power of an 'Open Letter'.. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

In direct response to our recent 'Open Letters' that you kindly shared and engaged in, it garnered attention of ABC Brisbane who provided us the opportunity to further discuss the realities of living and working through the current Varroa mite crisis.

Beekeeper Jason shared our grassroots perspective on the challenges being experienced right across the beekeeping community. This is not just about bees, it's about livelihoods, family businesses, food security, pollination, and the future of Australian agriculture.

Our message is simple: it's time for governments to pay attention to beekeepers and provide meaningful support. We need practical, tangible solutions, both immediate assistance and long-term investment in the future of our industry. Unfortunately, thoughts and prayers, endless roundtable discussions, and bureaucratic complexities are not helping the beekeepers losing hives today.

To everyone who has shared our Open Letter, commented, tagged others, and helped keep this conversation alive, thank you! Your support is amplifying the voices of beekeepers across Australia.

The power of the people is real, and together we can make sure this crisis is not ignored.

And keep your eyes peeled, we have several news articles scheduled to be published in the coming days as we continue to raise awareness and advocate for Australia's beekeepers.

Thankyou to everyone who commented, shared our letter and sent us messages of support. The impact has been seen and we are again asking for your support. This is our second open letter extending an invite to our government leaders, please share this far and wide!

An Open Letter from an Australian Beekeeper – How Much More Can We Lose?

To our communities, policymakers, industry leaders and fellow Australians,

Only a short time ago, we shared an open letter outlining the devastating impacts Varroa mite is having on Australia's beekeeping industry.

Today, the situation is worse.

At Bee All Natural, our hive losses have now reached approximately 80% and continue to increase daily. Across Logan and much of South East Queensland, beekeepers are reporting similar losses. Colonies that survived summer are collapsing. Colonies that appear healthy today may not survive winter. Many hives that do make it to pollination contracts are significantly weakened and unable to perform at the levels growers expect and need.

Yet despite the escalating crisis, there remains no financial support coming for Queensland beekeepers.
We continue to hear discussions about future round tables, meetings, working groups and consultations. While discussion has its place, round table conversations will not keep a single hive alive today. They will not pay for treatments. They will not replace dead colonies. They will not help beekeepers who are watching decades of work disappear in real time.

The reality on the ground is much simpler.

There are far fewer bee hives available for pollination than there were just months ago.

Many are already dead.
Many are dying.
Many more will not survive long enough to reach the next major pollination season.

The economics are equally concerning.
The cost of monitoring, treating and managing hives under Varroa pressure continues to increase. For many beekeepers, the cost of keeping colonies alive is now exceeding the income generated from honey production and pollination services.

Think about that for a moment.
If you were running a business where your operating costs were higher than your income, what would you do?

Most businesses would eventually be forced to reduce operations or close their doors altogether.
That is exactly the position many beekeepers now find themselves in.

The consequences extend well beyond the beekeeping industry.

Every hive lost reduces Australia's pollination capacity. Pollination underpins significant portions of our fruit, vegetable, nut and seed production. If commercial beekeepers cannot remain viable, the impacts will eventually flow through to growers, food production, supply chains and consumers.

We are not asking for sympathy.
We are asking for action.

We are asking decision-makers to recognise that an industry critical to Australia's food security is under unprecedented pressure. We are asking for practical support that helps businesses survive long enough to adapt to this new reality.

Rather than talk about the problem, we invite leaders from all levels of government to come and see it for themselves.

Come to our apiary.
Walk amongst the hives.
Witness first-hand the devastation Varroa mite is causing.
See the empty boxes that once housed thriving colonies. See the dead and dying bees.

Speak directly with the beekeepers who are fighting every day to save what remains.
Only by seeing the reality on the ground can the true scale of this crisis be understood.
Our door is open.
The invitation stands.

Thank you to Queensland Beekeepers' Association Inc for hosting such a robust and informative state conference in Bundaberg this week. We're sharing some of thoughts and take away's from the conference.

Please continue to support your local beekeeper and only buy Australian Honey. Your support goes a long way to managing the varroa mite crises. 🐝

Sitting in a room full of beekeepers and hearing their stories is sobering.
The hive losses represented in this room alone are staggering. Behind every number is a beekeeper, a family business, years of hard work, and in many cases, generations of knowledge and passion.
The impact of Varroa on our industry is real, and it's happening now.
As beekeepers, we are doing everything we can to save our bees. We are investing more time, more labour, and more money than ever before just to keep colonies alive. But we cannot do this alone.
We need support from all levels of government.
Our industry is largely self-funded through levies on honey production. The maths is simple: less bees means less honey, less honey means less levy revenue, and less levy revenue means fewer resources available to support an industry already under immense pressure.
Without meaningful support, the long-term consequences will extend far beyond beekeepers. Pollination, food production, regional communities, and Australia's food security all stand to be impacted.
This is not just a beekeeping issue. It is an Australian agriculture issue.

The drive north is serving up one of those classic Queensland sunsets tonight. πŸŒ…

We're on our way to the Queensland Beekeepers' Association Inc State Conference in Bundaberg and looking forward to catching up with beekeepers from across the state.
No doubt there will be plenty of honest, down-to-earth conversations about the realities of beekeeping in 2026, sharing lessons learned, challenges faced, and the resilience being shown as our industry navigates the ongoing Varroa mite crisis.

While the road ahead isn't without its challenges, bringing beekeepers together to learn, collaborate and support one another is exactly what our industry needs right now.
Here's to good conversations, shared knowledge, and continuing to strengthen and unite Queensland's beekeeping community. 🐝🐝🐝🐝

First of all, THANK YOU!

Our Open Letter is now being shared far and wide, but please don't stop sharing. Together, we have started something important.

Your support, whether by comments, sharing or even just a reaction means so much to us!

Beekeepers are now writing their own open letters and sharing their stories and lived experiences. None of this would have happened without the support of people like you. If you had simply scrolled past instead of taking the time to read and share our post (and yes, it was a long read! 😊), this movement may never have gained the momentum it has today.

Every share, comment, and conversation helps amplify the voices of those affected and brings greater awareness to the challenges facing our industry.

Now, let's hope these stories reach the people who have the power to make a difference and provide the support our industry desperately needs.

Thank you for standing with us. Please keep sharing.
