Roper Tutoring Co. offers small group tuition for Years 1 - 12 in the areas of Mathematics, English, Science and Humanities.
Our Tutors
Our tutors are qualified and experienced teachers, currently working in the education system. We have developed a student-centered approach to tuition where tutors design a learning program aimed at achieving your child’s academic goals, while also encouraging them to develop a genuine love for learning. Because we employ real teachers we ensure that your child’s development is continually monitored and assessed throughout every session they attend. This allows for immediate changes to be made to each child's individual learning program. There are no generic computer programs or pre-written lectures in our tutoring sessions - the environment that we create is one that evolves according to your child’s needs.
Small Group Tuition
Our group tutoring sessions are made up of a maximum of 4 students who have demonstrated similar levels of ability and who have been specifically placed together to ensure maximum achievement. We know that small group tuition is the best way for students to learn. Over the past 5 years we have witnessed firsthand how much students benefit from the group dynamic created in our sessions. This open and shared learning space fosters a culture of expressive and engaged learners who actively participate in discussions, grow in confidence and achieve greater results. Small group tuition creates a richer, more engaging learning experience for your child.
Our Director
Roper Tutoring Co. (formerly Apex Tutoring) was established in 2013 by our founder and director Rob Roper. Rob is a qualified primary and secondary Level 3 classroom teacher. Rob is a Classroom Management Strategies Specialist and a qualified Conferencing Accredited Trainer. Everyday in the classroom Rob is responsible for the training and development of other teachers. He is an expert at managing active participation with the goal of ensuring more students are engaged more of the time. Rob has taught in the primary and secondary systems, across both the public and private education sectors. He has also worked as a sessional academic tutor at the tertiary level at the University of Notre Dame, teaching Bachelor of Education students to become skilled and effective classroom teachers. These varied roles have helped to inform Rob’s teaching philosophy and his uncanny ability to build instant and lasting rapport with every student he meets.
Our Story
It was his exposure to many different ways of teaching and learning that led Rob to tutoring. Initially he held one-on-one home based tuition sessions, but quickly realised that this model is outdated and ineffective. Students were distracted in their home environments, and their level of accountability and engagement waned easily. Rob used his extensive knowledge of instructional strategies and applied a cooperative learning model (specifically Johnson’s Five Cooperative learning Model) and soon found that student engagement increased significantly when working within a group of 4 students. That magic number 4 is what we have come to find at Roper Tutoring Co. ensures a balanced and productive environment where students achieve real results.
Our Teaching Philosophy
Our main focus is to help students find their best way of learning. Whether they are a visual, kinaesthetic or an aural learner, discovering how they most effectively engage with the material, understand it and apply it is what we do best. We know how to adapt to a student’s needs and how to nurture their natural learning style. We know students spend 30 hours a week in the classroom, and the prospect of spending more time on a subject they are struggling with can feel defeating. This is where we come in. We want to be responsible for changing your child’s attitude towards learning. Our goal is to ensure that your child walks away from tutoring each week feeling empowered, inspired and prepared to achieve real results.
