This Wednesday, students from the Bankstown campus across the school participated in National Simultaneous Storytime and enjoyed reading Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller. Through Luna Roo's journey, students explored important themes such as perseverance, confidence and teamwork. Each year group completed engaging activities related to the story, including vocabulary tasks, mazes, colouring activities, exercise challenges, creative writing and crosswords. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate reading while developing literacy skills and reflecting on the positive messages shared throughout the story.

On Wednesday the 10 June, Year 3 visited Botany Bay and explored the many features in Kamay National Park. They had a wonderful experience learning about the discovery of Australia and the first Australians who lived in the area. The excursion allowed students to explore different perceptions of Australian history and understand the advent of European colonisation from an indigenous and European perspective. The students had the opportunity to follow the footprints of Captain James Cook, Sir Joseph Banks and reflect on the effects colonisation had on Aboriginal culture. Students learnt to appreciate the coastal landscape and bushlands and imagined what it was like to live in Botany Bay before, during and after colonisation. Year 3 explored the point of first contact between Aboriginal people and the settlers by dressing up in colonial costumes and re-enacting the events that took place at the time. Year 3 also learnt how the Aboriginal people survived in their environment by going on a bush walk using a walking track and learning about the different types of preserved specimens of native animals that exist in the area. Students also had the fun opportunity to build gunyas (Aboriginal shelters) using natural resources in the environment. They had an enjoyable and exciting day and left Kamay National Park with an understanding of European colonisation from both indigenous and European perspective.

As part of the Year 10 Arabic and Religion program, we had the opportunity to participate in an educational excursion. Our first visit was to Darulfatwa, where Sheikh Ibrahim Shafie and Sheikh Salim Alwan delivered an inspiring religious talk and shared valuable Islamic advice. We then visited the 2MFM Muslim Community Radio Station, where we learned about its history, how a radio station operates, and had the exciting opportunity to record our own voices. Afterwards, we went to Al Tayeb Restaurant, where we enjoyed a variety of delicious traditional foods. The day was a great success, and we gained new knowledge, valuable experiences, and lasting memories.
