How do you start a child on the road to reading and how do you know they are ready?
The first step is to introduce picture books. These books should contain no words. Have the child tell you a story about the picture. Start with as little as one page. The key is to watch their attention and willingness to continue. When you have lost their attention or willingness leave the book there and come back to it again another time or another day.
Continue to work with them this way until they are willing to give you at least 5 minutes of attention and truely interested in telling you what is happening in the picture.
Once you have achieved that you can start bridging into teaching them them to actually read the words and this is where you begin the adventure of reading!

We love giving our children opportunities to learn beyond the classroom—experiences that open their eyes to the many possibilities life has to offer. Every excursion and activity is thoughtfully chosen to make sure their time is meaningful, memorable, and connected to the real world.
Because learning doesn’t only happen at a desk—it happens everywhere. 🌟

Through reading.
Reading is the fundamental of all education. But it isn't just about being able to say the words. It is also about what the words represent, what they stand for and being able to use those words for oneself.
As one truly learns to read they expand their vocabulary and expand their understanding of the world and the things in it.
Reading has to be done right from the start.
Find out how we approach the subject of reading and why our program is effective.
