A trip to the tech college in Lilydale where the students got to learn the basics of forensic science!!

How do you start a child on the road to reading and how do you know they are ready?

The first step is to introduce picture books. These books should contain no words. Have the child tell you a story about the picture. Start with as little as one page. The key is to watch their attention and willingness to continue. When you have lost their attention or willingness leave the book there and come back to it again another time or another day.

Continue to work with them this way until they are willing to give you at least 5 minutes of attention and truely interested in telling you what is happening in the picture.

Once you have achieved that you can start bridging into teaching them them to actually read the words and this is where you begin the adventure of reading!

A fun day climbing! Working on motor skills is also an important part of the curriculum and what a fun way to do it! Lots of fun, lots of accomplishments.
