Lately, our Classroom 5 children have been on a mission in their outdoor yard, collecting all sorts of natural treasures to bring into their arts and crafts experiences! They are absolutely loving messy play and getting their hands dirtyβand we love seeing it.
Nature play is much more than just fun! Through these experiences, our toddlers are:
β¨ Exploring textures & colors that spark sensory discovery.
π± Developing independence as they shape, build, and transform their own creations.
π Learning to respect the environment and all living things.
𧩠Growing early numeracy skills by sorting and categorising their findings by size and shape.
π€ Fostering friendships and a beautiful sense of belonging.
Parents: Whatβs your childβs favorite natural treasure to collect outside? Let us know in the comments!

Creativity is essential for developing identity, wellbeing, communication, and critical thinking in young children. One of the ways we support this at Nido Early School, Kingsbury, is through open-ended arts and crafts! π¨ποΈ
Throughout the day, we provide children with a rich variety of art resources and opportunities. These experiences are designed not only to spark their imagination and creativity, but also to stimulate sensory exploration and foster vital social skills as they share, collaborate, and create together. π€π±
Watching our children's unique identities shine through their creations is truly magical! π

π€πβ€οΈ Reflecting on Reconciliation Week πππ€
We recently celebrated Reconciliation Week by embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our daily learning. By celebrating and recognising diverse cultures, we support our children in becoming inclusive, empathetic, and culturally aware.
Throughout the week, the children had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Country, exploring meaningful ways they can help care for the land and respect its Traditional Custodians.
Fostering these connections guides our little learners to become thoughtful global citizens, encouraging them to be kind to one another and view the world through an inclusive lens. πβ¨

Sensory exploration is an essential part of infant development. Our Nursery children engage in various sensory experiences throughout the day!
We provide hands-on learning experiences that stimulate the brain, creating vital neural pathways that support cognitive growth, motor skills, and language development. Through these experiences our children also develop important social skills, build self-awareness, and grow their resilience. These highly engaged experiences also bring out young growing children so much joy and laugher as they engage.
These moments are cognitively and emotionally enriching, helping our infants develop a positive self-image and confidence in their unique abilities. We love watching their sense of wonder grow every day! π¨π±

Our Toddler One and Toddler Two children have been working hard on their gardens! Theyβve been busy planting flowers, fruits, and vegetables, turning our outdoor space into a living classroom.
For our 1 to 3-year-olds, digging in the dirt is more than just funβitβs an amazing sensory experience that builds fine motor skills, encourages healthy eating habits, and teaches them about the world around them.
Stay tuned for updates as our little green thumbs watch their hard work come to life! π©βπΎπ§βπΎ

We were thrilled to welcome the Camp Quality Puppets to Nido Early School, Kingsbury! π
They put on a wonderful, gentle show teaching our children all about empathy, inclusion, and kindness. Through storytelling, our children learned:
π What cancer is in an age-appropriate way.
π€ What challenges children facing cancer might experience.
π« How we can all support and include each other at school.
Building these social-emotional skills is a huge part of our school readiness program, helping our children grow into compassionate global citizens.
Thank you, Camp Quality, for helping us show that every child deserves to be included in play! πβ¨

This term, our three-year-old kindergarten children have shown a strong interest in music. They have been exploring and identifying a range of musical instruments and making meaningful connections to culture through sound and rhythm.
To deepen this interest and introduce African music, we welcomed a Rhythm Music incursion. The children had the opportunity to play the djembe, listen to dynamic drum patterns, and move their bodies to African beats. These hands-on experiences fostered joy, cooperation, and active listening, while building early musical concepts such as beat, tempo, and call-and-response.
Through these experiences, the children are developing a sense of belonging to a global community and building understanding of the wider world. Celebrating diversity in music supports social sustainability by nurturing respect, fairness, and peaceful collaboration within our local and global communities.
This connects to our Nido Kindergarten Curriculum: Community and Healthy Minds and Bodies.
