Our Melbourne campus English students recently visited Box Hill, one of Melbourneβs most vibrant multicultural communities, to experience the diversity of cultures that makes the city so unique. Known for its strong Asian presence, particularly the Chinese community, Box Hill offered students an opportunity to explore a bustling local precinct filled with international shops, restaurants, markets, and cultural influences. π¨π³
π§π» During the excursion, students walked through the area, observed everyday life in a multicultural Australian suburb, and discussed the different languages, traditions, and cultural practices they encountered. They shared their observations in English, compared cultural experiences, and learned more about how migration has shaped Melbourneβs diverse population.
As part of the visit, students also enjoyed trying traditional Northern Chinese buns, giving them a taste of authentic regional Chinese cuisine and providing a fun opportunity to discuss food, culture, and personal preferences in English. π
The excursion provided a valuable opportunity for students to build confidence using English in a real-world setting while developing their intercultural awareness and communication skills. By engaging directly with one of Melbourneβs most diverse communities, students gained a deeper understanding of multiculturalism in Australia and strengthened their ability to express their ideas and experiences through meaningful conversations. π€π»π€π€π½β€οΈ

Recently, our English students enjoyed a vibrant day out, beginning with a visit to Ahoy Roy where they sat down together to enjoy a classic serving of fish and chips. The relaxed lunch setting gave students the chance to socialise, share stories, and practise their conversational English in a natural and friendly environment. ππ
Afterwards, the group headed down to St Kilda Beach, where the energy of the seaside created the perfect afternoon. Students took part in a friendly game of volleyball, working together in teams, learning new vocabulary related to sports and teamwork, and encouraging one another along the way. Many also took time to walk along the beach and enjoy the scenery. π
