Hi! Im Scarlett, and I’m doing work experience at The Coffee Apple • Australian Toy Shop • Helen (ignore my wet hair) and this is my 1st social media post…. how am I doing? 😁. I have a twin brother and he is fine most of the time 🙄. I also work at McDonalds though sometimes I come home smelling like grease 😭… I can rest well knowing I won’t slip out of The Coffee Apple without something fun to talk about.🤪

The work you do while the rest of the world sleeps is incredible. 🥰

Last night, during my third night shift, I had the opportunity to watch a side of the world that many of us rarely see.

As restaurant staff cleared tables and took out the rubbish, the street sweepers quietly moved in. Police cars slowly patrolled the streets. Construction crews tackled work best done during the quiet hours of the night.

Then, little by little, I watched the city wake up.

Milk deliveries arrived at cafés. Bakery deliveries rolled in. Work that often goes completely unseen was already well underway before most people had even opened their eyes.

The gym opened and some incredibly determined humans arrived before dawn. Slowly, people began appearing with coffees in hand. Traffic started to build. The world started moving again.

For 11 hours I watched the overnight workforce keep everything running — the rubbish trucks, the delivery drivers, the cleaners, the police, the construction crews, and the sirens sounding in the distance as others worked through the night to keep our communities moving.

This morning I arrived home as the sun began to rise. I’ll admit, after three night shifts, I’m feeling a little rough around the edges. But I’m also incredibly humbled.

Seeing the work that happens behind the scenes has opened my eyes to just how many people work while the rest of us sleep.

After a couple of long nights keeping traffic moving safely, I’m back where I love being – surrounded by puzzles, games, books, toys and all the wonderful little things that spark imagination and play. 🧩🚂🎲

My Monday morning started the best possible way… with fur baby cuddles from one of Ringwood East’s most loyal locals.

Meet Brutus. 🐶

At 16 years old, Brutus has been walking up and down our shopping strip since he was just a tiny puppy. He’s seen businesses come and go. He’s watched construction fences appear and disappear. He’s witnessed more change than most of us could imagine.

But Brutus doesn’t seem too concerned about any of that.

His world is much simpler.

For Brutus, life is about sunshine on the pavement, a gentle scratch behind the ears, a familiar face, and humans who are willing to stop for a moment and share a little love.

This morning, before the emails, before the jobs list, before the rush of the day, I got to sit on the ground and spend a few minutes with an old friend.

And honestly?

I think Brutus might have life figured out better than the rest of us.
