Education Update | Australia
Victoria’s teachers have voted down the state’s latest pay and conditions deal, citing excessive workloads and unpaid overtime.
What changes are needed to keep teachers in the profession?
Is pay the issue—or is it workload

One of the biggest reasons children don’t get support early enough is because of misconceptions about tutoring.
Many parents think:
❌ “Let’s wait and see.”
❌ “They’re probably fine.”
❌ “Tutoring is only for struggling students.”
But learning challenges rarely disappear on their own.
The earlier children receive the right support, the easier it becomes to build confidence and close learning gaps.

Parents often ask me:
“What makes your lessons different?”
The answer is simple.
Children learn best when they feel:
âś” Safe to make mistakes
âś” Supported
âś” Understood
âś” Capable of success
My goal isn’t just to improve grades.
My goal is to help students build the confidence and skills they need to thrive in school and beyond.
As a VIT/NESA licensed teacher in Australia, with 5+ years experience, my teaching approach is supportive, structured, and student-focused. I believe every child learns differently, and with the right guidance, encouragement, and consistency, every student can succeed.

• Question: My child barely gets any homework sheets or textbooks to bring home. How can they be learning anything if they aren't practicing exercises every night?
• Answer: Traditional rote learning relies on textbooks and heavy homework loads to reinforce memorization. Australian schools prioritize inquiry-based learning. In this system, students learn by solving real-world problems and researching topics during class time rather than copying notes from a board.
Homework often looks different here—it might be reading, working on a long-term research project, or discussing a topic.
The lack of daily worksheets doesn't mean they aren't learning; it means they are developing independent research skills.

As the weekend slows down, here’s a little reminder that the small things we do consistently can make a huge difference.
Did you know that children who read for just 20 minutes a day are exposed to millions more words each year than those who don’t?
And by Year 3, something important happens: children move from learning to read to reading to learn. That’s why building strong reading habits in the early years matters so much.
This weekend, try setting aside just 20 minutes to read together. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Snuggle up on the couch, take turns reading pages, talk about the pictures, laugh at the funny parts, and enjoy the moment. 🤎
Those 20 minutes are doing more than building reading skills—they’re building confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.
How many minutes does your child spend reading each day?

One of the best gifts you can give your child is a love of reading.
Not because reading is a school subject.
But because reading affects every subject.
The books on this list are popular in Australian schools and help Year 3 students develop:
📚 Vocabulary
📚 Fluency
📚 Comprehension
📚 Confidence
Start with the book your child is most excited about—not necessarily the hardest one.
A child who enjoys reading will read more.
And children who read more become stronger learners.
