Forward thinking, fostering a love for learning, egalitarianism & proud connection to Jewish identity

In February 1978, KDS Commenced teaching 45 students under the supervision of founding Principal, Norman Rothman. The King David School quickly grew in popularity and in 1984 the Magid Campus opened in Orrong Rd, and in November 1986, both properties were dedicated by His Excellency, the President of the State of Israel, Chaim Herzog. Pure adventure and big smiles for our Year 9s! Year 9 Camp is running brilliantly, and the students are having an absolute blast.

The students are fully immersing themselves in an action-packed lineup of adventures. So far, they have taken on mountain bike riding, canoeing, a high ropes course, orienteering, and a visit to the zoo. They even conquered two major hikes, alongside a rock climbing and abseiling session down a 20-meter cliff! We've seen them push past fears, support each other, and find their confidence.

When they aren't on the trails, they are busy playing board games, singing during cleanup duties, and genuinely connecting with one another.

The group is currently winding down for a relaxing Shabbat weekend, kicking off this afternoon, before hiking week officially begins on Monday!

From balancing and crawling, to jumping and crossing the midline, our ELC children love their "Goof Baree" (Hebrew for Healthy Body) sport sessions!

These active, playful movements do so much more than just burn energy, they intentionally develop each child’s gross motor skills, coordination, concentration, and confidence.

The children look forward to visiting the Sports Hall each week to take on new and exciting challenges!

Take a look at Nitzan - our full day, Year 9 program that runs every Wednesday throughout the school year for real-world learning and wellbeing.

With active starts, hands-on projects, life skills, community initiatives and volunteering, students grow in confidence, purpose and belonging.

At the moment, our students are immersed in their Artivism project, which looks at social causes and working together toward a fundraising event in Term 3.

This year's theme is Education, Community and Disability, and the students are raising money for Flying Fox.

Through the lens of Art, Music, Drama and Cooking, our students have a shared goal, and they are learning by taking action.

Our Year 9 students are putting their Physics and Maths skills to the test as they prepare for the Victorian Model Solar Vehicle Challenge. This STEM initiative encourages students to think creatively and sustainably as they explore how solar energy can be used to power vehicles.

During a recent hands-on workshop, students partnered with retired mechanical engineer Ian Gardner to refine and test their Sheridan kit cars. It was a masterclass in practical engineering that challenged students to construct, test, and refine their solar cars.

We can't wait to see their innovations at the competition later this year!

Today, our Year 6 students channelled the spirit of Louis Sachar's classic novel, 'Holes,' and the enthusiasm was awesome! The students donned incredible costumes, dressing up as their favourite characters from the book.

Our budding readers engaged in a variety of interactive, hands-on activities that brought the story to life. They put their problem-solving skills to the test by cracking codes in a high-stakes escape room challenge, and they even got creative by producing their own jars of spiced peaches.

It was truly an exciting and memorable day for all involved, and reminded us just how magical reading can be!

On Friday, Gan Seorah Kinder students visited Emmy Monash and shared Shabbat with the residents.

The encounter was a beautiful reminder of the power of community, empathy, and the simple joys of life.

The children plaited challot with the residents, and then gifted flower pots to each person and sang Shabbat songs.

Bringing these two generations together was about sharing the invaluable gifts of friendship and mutual respect.
