Wawa Wawa All!

It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since Aunty Dr Sue Atkinson wrote the inspiring VEYLDF Aboriginal Cultural Knowledge Story!

I had the privilege of painting the Ochre Works, creating my signs and symbols to reflect Aboriginal Pedagogy that Aunty Sue had woven through the document she authored.

How are you implementing the VEYLDF Cultural Knowledge Story & Aboriginal Ochre Works within your Early Childhood Space or Primary School?

It’s a great time to reflect on ways you foreground the following!

• Practice Principles Elements
• Outcomes Elements
• Transitions Elements

You may be aware that there has been a recent REVIEW process of the VICTORIAN EARLY YEARS LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK (VEYLDF).

Both Aunty Sue Atkinson and I have been involved in the Review and we can’t wait for you to see this new document!

Includes Bush Tucker Recipes too!

Recently we hosted International Students in our YSS City Store as part of a project collaboration between Yarn Strong Sista & West & Nth Melbourne Neighborhood Centre.

Such a rich experience where participants connected with local Aboriginal knowledges via us honouring Aboriginal Pedagogies (Teachings).

We facilitated a hands on workshop where Students were encouraged to be creative using natural materials while sharing their own Cultural Identity Stories!

Let’s go deeper

Let’s engage with Aboriginal Culture within Narrm’s City Scape.

Participants will be inspired by an innovative Creative art experience using ‘Chalk & Natural Materials’ in our city outdoor space.

Taungurung Early Childhood Consultant Annette Sax, will highlight aspects of Aunty Dr Sue Atkinson’s PhD Research ‘Aboriginal Elders as Teachers of the Environmental Knowledge’ through this Tracking Art experience!

Yarn Strong Sista is excited to collaborate with the Early Childhood Outdoor Learning Network by hosting Members for an interactive 2 hour gathering in our YSS City Store on Saturday 23rd May 2026 from 10am to 12noon.
