🌏✨ Celebrating Cultural Identity Through Children's Voices ✨🌏
At Goodstart Doncaster East, we believe every child’s story matters.
Over the past few weeks, our children have been exploring their cultural identity, family backgrounds, languages, and connections to home. Through conversations, drawings, and shared stories, children were invited to tell us about their families, where they come from, the languages they speak, and what makes them unique.
This beautiful display captures their voices, ideas, and artwork, creating a visual celebration of the rich diversity within our learning community. Each drawing and story reflects a child's growing sense of identity, belonging, and pride in who they are.
By providing opportunities for children to share their experiences and perspectives, we support them to develop a strong sense of self while learning to appreciate and respect the cultures, traditions, and stories of others.

💛 Today is the last day to donate to our Wear It Yellow fundraiser for Children's Ground! 💛
We are only $30 away from reaching our goal of $500. If you are able to contribute, even a small donation will help us reach this milestone and support the incredible work being done by Children's Ground.
Children’s Ground is led by First Nations communities who are working to create a different future for the next generation of children. Their vision is that every child grows up strong in their identity, culture, and connection to Country free from injustice and economic poverty.
Operating across Central Australia and the Top End of the Northern Territory, Children’s Ground takes a long-term, 25-year approach to change. Their work is guided by First Nations knowledge, experience, and leadership, and focuses on five key areas of wellbeing: learning, health, economic development, community development, and creative and cultural development.
This is our third year supporting this important cause, and we are proud to stand alongside their vision for strong, thriving communities.
If you are able to support, please consider making a donation by clicking the link

At Goodstart Doncaster East, we believe that reconciliation is everyone's journey. As part of our commitment to building understanding, respect and inclusion, we have been sharing translated resources from Reconciliation Australia to support our families who speak English as an additional language.
By providing information in multiple languages, we aim to ensure that all families can engage with the important messages of National Reconciliation Week, learn about Australia's shared history, and participate in conversations about reconciliation in ways that are meaningful to them.
We are proud to celebrate the rich cultural diversity within our community and recognise that creating a sense of belonging means making information accessible to everyone.
Together, we can learn, reflect, and take action towards a more respectful and inclusive future for all Australians.

Today, our centre came together to acknowledge and reflect on the meaning of Sorry Day (Tuesday 26th May). Through shared stories, songs, and conversations, we created a space for connection, learning, and respect as we recognised the histories and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Together, we shared an Acknowledgement of Country and sang Inanay and Taba Naba, celebrating the importance of culture, storytelling, and community. Maureen read Warnayarra: The Rainbow Snake, supporting children to engage with Aboriginal perspectives and Dreaming stories, while Mandy shared My Lost Mob, creating meaningful discussions around identity, belonging, and connection to family and culture.
Our yarning space was thoughtfully set up with books, artefacts, flags, and natural materials to encourage children and educators to gather, listen, reflect, and learn together. Through these shared experiences, children were supported to develop empathy, respect, and an understanding of truth telling and reconciliation in age-appropriate ways.
As a community, we continue to walk alongside one another with respect, listening to First Nations voices and recognising the importance of keeping culture, stories, and connections strong for future generations.

Happy World Tea Day!
At Goodstart Doncaster East, yarning and sharing a cup of tea has become an embedded and meaningful part of our daily practice. These moments create opportunities for connection, conversation, relationship building, and a sense of belonging within our learning community.
As part of our commitment to connecting with nature and embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, we have been growing a bush tucker garden, including our beautiful lemon myrtle tree. The children have enjoyed learning about how native plants can be used in everyday life, and together we have been using the leaves from the tree to make lemon myrtle tea to share during our yarning times.
These experiences encourage children to slow down, connect with one another, and develop an appreciation for sustainable practices, native plants, and the rich knowledge shared through First Nations cultures.

As part of our ongoing commitment to children’s safety and wellbeing, we are sharing a helpful resource developed by the National Office for Child Safety through the Australian Government’s One Talk at a Time campaign.
This activity booklet supports families to have open, age-appropriate conversations with children about safety, relationships, boundaries, consent, body awareness, and online safety. These everyday conversations help children understand that they can always speak to trusted adults and that their voices will be listened to.
The booklet includes simple and engaging activities with conversation prompts that can naturally be included in daily routines and play experiences. Topics include:
• Respecting boundaries
• Safe and unsafe touch
• Saying “no”
• Understanding physical warning signs
• The difference between surprises and secrets
• Online safety and protective behaviours
While these conversations can sometimes feel challenging, having them in calm, everyday moments helps children feel safe, supported, and confident to ask questions or share concerns.
We encourage families to explore the booklet together at home and continue building children’s awareness of safety, trust, and communication.
Support conversations with children about safety and wellbeing with the One Talk at a Time activity booklet.
Developed by the National Office for Child Safety, this practical resource includes age appropriate activities and prompts to help children identify safe relationships, trusted adults and ways to seek help.
