The timing of when you include your family members in your 485 visa could make a big difference in visa cost.

If an eligible family member is included in the original 485 visa application, they generally pay an additional applicant charge as part of the same application, which is typically lower than the primary applicant's visa application charge.

However, if a partner or eligible family member applies after the primary 485 visa has already been granted, they may need to lodge a separate subsequent entrant application, which In many cases, would be the same visa application charge as the primary applicant's visa fee.

You can study in Australia while bringing your family with you.
Recently we had the privilege of assisting a client from Kenya who decided to pursue a bachelor of social work in Australia while her husband and a 4-year-old son both joined her on the journey.
Our team helped her explore study options that maximise her PR chances and prepared her applications from course enrolment to the family’s visa applications. The visas were granted in June. Congratulations to the whole family.

Fast 12-months courses that lead to PR
And possible to get invited at 65pts
If you have around two years remaining on your current visa or about to lodge your 485visa, a trade qualification could be worth exploring as your PR pathway as the study duration is around 12 months and you normally need another 12 months to complete a job ready program for the skills assessment.
While you are studying, you may also bring eligible family members or your partner to Australia with you.

From Nursing Student to Australian PR-full journey documented
We recently celebrated the grant of a Victorian Subclass 190 for one of our clients, a Registered Nurse (Critical Care and Emergency), who received an invitation with 75 points.

What makes this journey special is that we've had the privilege of supporting her from the beginning of her nursing study pathway to her final permanent residency.

Back in August 2024, she commenced her Bachelor of Nursing after receiving credit recognition for her previous overseas nursing studies, allowing her to transition into an accredited Australian nursing program.

As her graduation approached in December 2025, we began preparing her migration skills assessment. The assessment was successfully completed in February 2026, and we lodged her Expression of Interest (EOI) and Registration of Interest (ROI) shortly afterwards.

In April 2026, she received a Victorian Subclass 190 pre-invitation and proceeded with her visa application.

Just one month later, she and her husband received their permanent residency grant.

Recently, we received a heartfelt email from the couple thanking our team for supporting them throughout their nursing and migration journey. Messages like these remind us why we do what we do.

Congratulations again on this incredible milestone, and thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey.

If you're planning to move in with your partner in Australia, start collecting these documents from day one, as they could be crucial for your future partner visa application:
• A shared lease agreement or mortgage documents showing both names
• Rent or mortgage payment history from a joint account or shared contributions
• Utility bills such as electricity, water, gas, or internet addressed to both of you
• Mail, emails, or official correspondence sent to the same residential address
• Evidence of how you share household responsibilities, such as written statements or records of shared expenses

The earlier you start documenting your life together, the stronger your evidence may show that your relationship has been genuine and ongoing over time.
If you're planning a partner visa pathway, contact us to discuss your options.

Do you need to update your age in your EOI?

The answer is no as the system automatically does that.

You should also receive an email notification advising that your points score has changed.

However, it's still a good idea to regularly review your EOI and ensure all other information remains accurate and up to date.

You could be taking a longer and more expensive pathway than necessary
if you're going through the 482 → 186 TRT pathway when you already qualify for the 186 Direct Entry stream
For a subclass 482 visa, the process typically involves:
* Standard Business Sponsorship(SBS) application- 420 AUD
* nomination application-330 AUD
* Skilling Australians Fund(SAF) levy-charged yearly
* labour market testing (LMT) - potential ads cost
* and the visa application fee
In addition, when transitioning to the 186 TRT stream later, there are further nomination and visa application fees, as well as additional SAF levy payments for the 186 visa after completing two years on a 482 visa.
By comparison, the 186 Direct Entry stream may allow eligible applicants and employers to proceed directly to permanent residency through a single nomination and visa process.
