Our Grade 5 students had an incredible day stepping back in time at Sovereign Hill as part of our Inquiry unit on the Gold Rush!
Throughout the excursion, students explored what life was like during the 1850s, connecting directly to our learning. They investigated how the Gold Rush shaped Australian society, with a focus on significant events, migration, and the experiences of different groups of people.
Students engaged in hands-on activities such as gold panning, exploring historical buildings, and interacting with costumed educators. These experiences helped them: understand key events and developments of the Gold Rush era, learn about the lives of individuals and groups from different backgrounds, analyse historical sources and build a stronger sense of continuity and change in Australian history.
It was wonderful to see students asking thoughtful questions, making connections, and bringing their classroom learning to life in such an immersive way.

Over the last few weeks, our Grade 4 students have been exploring some of the different programs on offer at MPS during our Digitech lessons. They have been utilising programs like Canva, and Minecraft Education, constructing various designs that both relate to our core teaching, or free choice creations during some leisure time. We are looking at turning our Inquiry project playgrounds, into virtual masterpieces over the coming weeks, so stay tuned for that too! We understand that digital literacy is crucial to the development of our students, particularly growing up in a world where technology is so prevalent. We are loving what you guys are creating, and look forward to being blown away by your work as the term comes to a close, Grade 4's!

In Intercultural Studies, students have been exploring the importance of making right and wrong decisions and how our choices can impact ourselves and others. Through discussions and activities, students are learning to understand shared expectations and develop safe, respectful decision-making skills.
They have also been discovering how emotions and feelings can influence the choices we make, helping them build greater self-awareness, empathy, and understanding of others. These valuable lessons support students in becoming thoughtful, respectful, and responsible members of our community.

In STEM over the past couple of weeks all Grade 3 and 4 students had an opportunity to participate in a life cycles lesson using VR (Virtual Reality) headsets in the MPS Digihub. Students consolidated their learning by looking at lifecycles of a butterfly, frog and plant by getting up close to these living things! Students were so excited to use the VR headsets and explore this topic by feeling like they are physically among the garden and pond habitats.

On Friday 15th May, the Grade 3 students attended an exciting excursion to Healesville Sanctuary. Students had the opportunity to see a range of native Australian animals, including kangaroos, echidnas, emus, and platypuses. One of the highlights of the day was watching the bird show, where students were amazed by the birds’ clever tricks and abilities. The students also participated in an educational session where they learnt more about Aboriginal culture and Australia’s rich history. It was a fun and engaging day enjoyed by all!🦘🐨🦅
