Arts Week kicked off yesterday with a fantastic performance by our Year 12 Certificate Band in front of the café. The band students have honed their musical skills and talents at JFSC, and the performance was very popular with both students and staff.

Our Let’s Face the Music & Dance concerts were held on Friday evening, giving the audience an engaging insight into dance and a preview of our band’s upcoming New Zealand tour performance. Congratulations to all the students who performed and supported the event. Your incredible skill, talent, and teamwork shone throughout the concerts.

30 of our musicians will travel to New Zealand at the end of Week 10 for Rhapsody Rotorua, representing WA alongside two other schools. Our Concert Band and Classical Guitar Quartet will perform with students from across the Pacific and take part in cultural activities. We wish them safe travels!

Arts week one of our favourite weeks at John Forrest Secondary College! Our students will be showcasing their talents and skills with concerts, performances, and the showcase. With a lot of work that has happened behind the scenes, thank you to the dedicated teachers, students, parents and community that assist with arts week this year!

Our musicians are getting very excited about the tour to New Zealand at the end of this term. As a special memento, Design and Technology staff and students gave up their time to create these cute, little name tags for their instrument cases. Each student receives one with their name on it, including the older students!

Congratulations to Alexandra Strickland who was accepted to attend the Reserve Bank of Australia Immersion Event 2026. The Teacher Immersion Event provides an excellent opportunity for WA secondary school teachers to expand their knowledge of current economic issues and deepen their understanding of economic concepts whilst engaging in professional discussions with their peers and practicing economists.

Our Dance, Drama and Music students will present this year’s Performing Arts Showcase, Looks Like Teen Spirit, on Wednesday, 17 June at 6.30pm in the Auditorium.
This special evening provides Performing Arts students with the opportunity to practise their live performance skills and showcase their work to the school community.

Our English Masterclass offers year 5/6s from local primary school the chance to engage and learn about the power of words. Students showed their impressive knowledge of language features and their public speaking skills by creating an innovative invention and a persuasive pitch in 30 minutes that they then presented to the whole class.

Our year 8 students recently visited Hillcrest Primary School to read their stories to enthusiastic audiences from Pre Primary through to Year 3. It was wonderful to see them share their books have been developing over the past few weeks with such an honest and engaged group of young readers. We have some very talented storytellers and illustrators in this group.

Year 9 HASS Students have been on the election trail, creating a political campaign for an issue relevant to Australia. From saving sharks, to culling sharks, increasing electric car ownership, and funding public education, the future is in good hands with these students.
