MAT CHAT: LOYALTY 🥋
Loyalty is about standing by the people, teams, and communities that matter to you.
In Kung Fu, loyalty means being committed to your training, respecting your Sifu, supporting your classmates, and taking pride in being part of your school.
Loyalty doesn't mean being perfect. It means showing up, doing your best, and staying committed even when things get challenging.
We encourage our students to practise loyalty in all areas of life:
🏠 At Home
Being grateful to your parents and carers, helping out, and showing appreciation for the people who support you every day.
🏫 At School
Supporting your classmates, respecting your teachers, and staying committed to your learning.
⚽ In Sport
Encouraging your teammates, working together, and staying positive whether you win or lose.
🥋 In Kung Fu
Being loyal to your school, your training partners, your Sifu, and the traditions that have been passed down through generations.
Loyality helps build trust, respect, and strong relationships. It teaches us that success doesn't come from giving up when things get difficult—it comes from staying committed to the people and goals that matter most.
💛 Loyalty today. Success tomorrow.

MAT CHAT: TRUST 🤝
Trust is something that takes a long time to build…
but it can be lost very quickly.
In Kung Fu, our students learn that trust is built through:
🥋 Being honest
🥋 Doing what you say you will do
🥋 Keeping promises and commitments
🥋 Being reliable and respectful
Every small action matters.
When students train consistently, help their teammates, listen to instructions, and show good character, people learn they can be trusted.
But trust can also be broken through:
❌ Dishonesty
❌ Breaking promises
❌ Letting others down
❌ Not following through
This lesson doesn’t just apply in the kwoon.
🏠 At home — trust grows when kids help out and keep their word
🏫 At school — teachers trust students who are honest and responsible
🏏 In sport — teammates rely on each other to work together and never give up
Strong relationships are built on trust.
At FitLife Martial Arts, we work hard to build not only strong martial artists… but strong, trustworthy young people too.
💛 “Trust is earned. It takes time to build, but can be lost in a moment.”

MAT CHAT: RIGHTEOUSNESS 🥋
In Kung Fu, Righteousness means doing the right thing…
even when no one is watching.
In the kwoon, our students learn this by:
🧹 Cleaning the mats
🥋 Packing away equipment
🪟 Looking after the training space
Not because they are told to…
but because they take responsibility and pride in their environment.
But this doesn’t stop in the kwoon.
We encourage our students to take this same attitude into everyday life:
🏠 At home – helping out, tidying up, doing jobs without being asked
🏫 At school – being honest, respectful, and doing the right thing even when it’s hard
🏏 In sport – playing fair, supporting teammates, showing good sportsmanship
Righteousness is about character.
It’s about being someone others can trust and rely on.
That’s what we build in every class at FitLife Martial Arts.

This week's Mat Chat is the second virtue from our Martial Morality code or Mou Dak. It is made up of two parts.
Morality of Deed
* Respect
* Humility
* Righteousness
* Trust
* Loyalty
Morality of Mind
* Will Power
* Perseverance
* Endurance
* Patience
* Courage
HUMILITY 🙇♂️🙇♀️
In Kung Fu, we don’t just learn how to punch and kick…
we learn how to show respect and stay humble.
At the start and end of every class, students salute their Sifu and each other.
Not because they have to — but because they understand something important:
No matter how good you get, there is always more to learn.
Humility means:
🥋 Listening when your instructor speaks
🥋 Respecting your training partners
🥋 Being proud of your progress, without thinking you are better than others
🥋 Help each other to improve
Strong martial artists are not the loudest or the toughest…
They are the ones who stay calm, respectful, and open to learning.
That’s what we build in every class at FitLife Martial Arts.

Apart from giving kids the benefits of health, fitness, and self protection, we also teach them martial morality and how to be a good person.
We do this through our weekly mat chats. Every kids' class has a daily discussion on the theme for that week. They also take home the mat chat to colour in and discuss with their parents and siblings.
We would like to share these with the families that aren't yet, or can't, train with us. We hope you find them as beneficial as we do with our members.😁
RESPECT 🤜🫷
In Kung Fu, respect is where everything begins.
We teach children to respect their parents and elders, their teachers and what they are being taught, their training partners, and themselves — through our salute, our behaviour on the mats, and how we show up to training.
These small rituals build big life skills:
• focus
• humility
• self-control
• gratitude
Because Kung Fu isn’t just about learning techniques — it’s about becoming a respectful, confident human.
