We are delighted to share with you that our Student Ambassador Program has been highlighted by the Department of Education on their news channel. Representing 12 community languages, 30 Student Ambassadors from Years 4, 5 and 6 are matched with newly arrived peers who share their home language.
Our story is part of a series that is being featured this week, as part of the Department's recognition of Refugee Week.
You can read the article here: https://education.nsw.gov.au/news/latest-news/the-public-school-redefining-support-for-refugees
This article is a testament to the exceptional work that Miss Stuart, Ms Malik, Mrs Kriedieh and Mrs Chin have put in to establishing this valuable program, through their initial work with the Leading EAL/D Education Project in 2025.
This program continues to be strengthened in 2026, with Mr Cartwright joining the team, to ensure that this becomes a sustainable practice of welcoming and supporting student wellbeing and leadership at Parramatta West.
Congratulations to all involved! We are so proud of our Student Ambassadors who lead with pride and empathy every day.

Last week, we welcomed some ex-students back to PWPS for a very special visit. Our guests ranged from attending PWPS in the 1950s to the 1990s. We spent the afternoon sharing stories, reminiscing, and reliving fond memories. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the rich history of PWPS and reflect on how much our school has grown and changed over the years. 💙

✨ Spotlight on Year 1 ✨
🔢 In Maths, our Year 1 students in 1N have been exploring 2-digit numbers by partitioning tens and ones, using fun materials like base 10 blocks. They’re mastering place value and discovering new ways to break down numbers!
📚 In English, students in 1N dived into phonemes (the sounds in words) and graphemes (the letters that represent those sounds), focusing on sounds like /l/, /ll/, /s/, /ss/, /z/, and /zz/. They practiced blending sounds to read and write simple words with great enthusiasm during our phonics and handwriting sessions.
Keep up the awesome work, Year 1!

This week we were delighted to host pre-school children from Shepherd Early Learning Centre for a visit to one of our Kindergarten classes. The children visited KK classroom with Mrs Karabulut and Mrs Mahadea where they sang songs, read a story and engaged in play-based learning activities. Our KK students were amazing buddies, guiding the preschoolers through each activity. At PWPS it is important to set up strong transition points for students starting school and we look forward to some more visits with SELC preschoolers later this year.

🔦Spotlight on Stage 2 🔦
💻🧩 Stage 2 students combined their mathematics and science learning as they explored the exciting world of coding! Using previously learnt positional language such as left, right, forward and backward, students created a sequence of instructions and used a digital algorithm to complete a task. Through problem-solving, collaboration and critical thinking, they discovered how clear and accurate instructions are essential for successful coding. Here we can see 3/4K exploring the connections between science and math. 🚀✨
