Some photos from the squad weekend training for the Tasseikan Squad, along with Chitoryu members from Chito Ryu Karate Newcastle and Chito Ryu Karate Blue Mountains. Highlights include a 4hr kata master class on Shihohai, and a fun and insightful kumite session exploring new concepts.
14 hours of training over 3 days. Thank you Kyoshi Noonan, Renshi Snow, Sensei Tamara and Sensei Adam. 🙏🏼

A special shoutout and a huge thanks to the squad parents who answered the call to action for volunteers (most of them being their first time) at the Tasseikan Dojo Tournament yesterday. All learning the ropes of the new Soke Cup electronic scoring system built by Martin Sensei. And talk about being thrown into the fire - their first kata event? The Dan Opens. Their first kumite event? The Open Male Kumite round 😳.
Now I guess Senpai Nic knows how it feels like to be a celebrity!
Photos from the amazing Ada will be uploaded in coming days.

The Roots Run Deep! Great Karate Camp!!
One of the highlights for me at the recent QLD Karate Camp was a session with some of our Australian senior ranks: Mark Snow, Martin Phillips, Sandra Phillips and Adam Higgins Senseis. While the rest of the group headed off for beach training, the five of us stayed behind to wrestle with some very high-level concepts and applications.
Why was that my favourite session?
Because between the five of us there is probably well over 200 years of combined Karate training and experience… yet we were still excited to learn, question, experiment, and continue developing.
There is no real end to this journey.
For the Chito Ryu people amongst you, the session centred around Nage no Kata. There are layers to this art that only reveal themselves after decades of the right dedicate practice.
Thank you to Sunshine Coast Karate and the entire QLD Chito-Ryu Karate-Do team for making this happen.
Train, eat, sleep… and repeat. From the moment we arrived on Friday, the gi went on and there was barely time for anything else.
What stood out most to me was seeing all age groups and grades training together with genuine enthusiasm. There was a real thirst for learning, improvement, and understanding, and plenty of highly qualified instructors willing to share knowledge and experience.
GOOD JOB AU CHITO RYU

Third and last day of National Coach Sandra Sensei at Tasseikan’s May 2026 squad training with nearly the whole squad showing up 😎(with a couple needing to leave before the grouo photo and a couple away sick this weekend). So much learnt, and now to unpack. Thank you Noonan Sensei for organising and hosting this weekend and to Sami Sensei from Sunshine Coast Karate and Adam Sensei from Chito Ryu Karate Blue Mountains for your leadership.
