Gifted and Talented Year 8 and 9 Team-Building Excursions 🤝
Our Year 8 and Year 9 Gifted and Talented students recently took part in their annual Team-Building Excursions, enjoying a fantastic day out in Fremantle filled with bowling, mini golf, and lunch together. 🎳 ⛳
This much-loved, GAT-exclusive event provides students with the opportunity to connect beyond the classroom, strengthening friendships and building teamwork in a fun, relaxed environment.
It was wonderful to see students stepping outside the academic setting, supporting one another, and embracing the social side of the program.

Cultural Celebration Project 🎲🎭
Our Year 12 General Children, Family and the Community students recently completed a Cultural Celebration project, where they researched a culture of their choice and designed an engaging game or activity to help educate children about that culture. Through their creativity and research, students developed a variety of interactive learning experiences, including flag painting activities, memory card games, colouring sheets, mask-making projects, and culturally themed snakes and ladders games.
This task provided students with the opportunity to explore and celebrate diverse cultures from around the world while developing their research, communication, and creative design skills. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, effort, and creativity demonstrated by all students throughout this project and the thoughtful ways they shared cultural knowledge through play-based learning.

2026 Eagles Cup Grand Final 🏉
Congratulations to our boys on an outstanding season.
Not the result we were hoping for, but we are incredibly proud of our boys for making the 2026 Eagles Cup grand final and fighting hard until the final siren.
In the 21st century, Melville Senior High School has not been a strong football school—including a full decade without a single win until the last couple of years—so to go 4–0 this season leading into the grand final is a huge achievement.
The past couple of years have shown real growth and momentum, and this group has laid a foundation the whole school can be proud of.

Celebrating Excellence in Gifted and Talented ⭐️
Our Gifted and Talented Student Leaders hosted a fantastic Semester One Awards presentation, recognising outstanding academic achievement across the Mathematics, English, Science and HaSS (MESH) learning areas.
This year’s event also featured two exciting additions—a student‑made Semester One highlights video and a lively “Guess the Teacher!” team challenge, with canteen vouchers up for grabs.
Special awards were presented to students who exemplified our school values of Respect, Integrity, Growth and Resilience throughout this semester. The room was full of encouragement and celebration as students cheered one another on, followed by a well‑earned morning tea dessert platter for all award recipients and leaders.
Congratulations to our incredible Gifted and Talented students for their dedication, curiosity and commitment to excellence.

A Day in the Life of a Uni Student 🧑💻
Our Year 9 Academic Extension Course (AEC) students spent the day at Murdoch University, immersing themselves in real campus life through hands‑on workshops, conversations with current students, and a tour that showcased what studying at uni truly feels like.
Starting with a welcome presentation, they heard from four Murdoch students across different disciplines who led a Q&A on pathways into uni, making friends, and navigating student life. Each then hosted a workshop in their field—forensic science, biological extinction, community service, and mathematics/physics—giving our students a genuine taste of university learning.
