Nido Early School Wembley Downs

Last week we celebrated World Oceans Day. This week our Kinder children learned about protecting the ocean, participating in an ocean clean up experience. Using tongs, they carefully removed different types of waste from the "ocean". The children identified recyclable materials and placed them in the recycling bin, while non-recyclable items, such as plastic lids, were placed in the rubbish bin.

Our kinder children are busy with an inquiry project about our local community, preparing for our next neighbourhood walk in our local community next week. Exploring the local community helps children build a strong sense of identity, connection and belonging.

This week we celebrated World Oceans Day. Simple activities like ocean-themed sensory water play, help children build curiosity and respect for nature. By introducing World Ocean Day through playful experiences, we are planting early seeds of care, wonder, and responsibility for our beautiful blue planet.

Our kinder children recently completed an inquiry project about birds in our local area. During National Reconciliation week, children shared the Dreamtime story ‘How the Birds Got Their Colours’. The children’s artwork responses to the story are displayed in our upstairs piazza.

Today we had one of our regular visits from Daycare Dental. Teaching children from an early age about health and wellbeing is important. So today dentist Kim spoke to our children about their teeth and how to keep them healthy.

Last week our Kinder children went on a neighbourhood walk. The excursion complemented the children’s recent inquiry projects about birds and the local community. The children spotted and took photos of local landmarks like the water tower, numbers and letters in the environment, birds, birdbaths, boats and caravans.
