This week, our students took part in an observation walk through the local community and nature. It is a simple activity, but a meaningful one. Observation, mindfulness and connection to nature are all skills that matter in community and care-based work, and sometimes the best way to build them is to step outside and practise. A good reminder that learning does not always happen at a desk.

Last week, the AIWT team had the chance to attend three Careers Expos across the region: Frederick Irwin Anglican School in Mandurah, Lakeland Senior High School, and the Serpentine Jarrahdale Expo at Byford Senior High School.
It was a great few days. Lots of great questions, curious students, and parents thinking ahead about what comes after school. Conversations like these matter. Choosing a pathway after school is a big decision, and we are always glad to be part of that conversation, even if it is just to help someone figure out what questions to ask next. Thank you to all three schools for having us. We loved being part of your events.

48 countries. One campus. Let the arguments begin.
Behind the scenes at AIWT, the team is running a World Cup sweep. ⚽ 48 countries. A lot of opinions. And just a little bit of friendly competition in the office. May the best team win. 🏆
P.S. This image was AI-generated — some of our trainers came out looking a little different than usual, but we think they scrub up alright. 😄

This week, AIWT welcomed OVIS Community Services back to our West Perth campus for the Overcoming Violence, Inspiring Safety workshop. It was a session built around real conversations.
Our students engaged deeply with the topics, bringing their own experiences and perspectives to the room. That kind of honest reflection is not always easy. But it matters, especially for people training to work in community services, early childhood, and support roles where these issues come up in real working life. Thank you to the Ovis Community team for facilitating such a thoughtful and impactful session.

This Tuesday, the AIWT team will be at the Frederick Irwin Anglican School Careers Expo and we would love to see you there. Last year more than 400 people came through the doors, this year they are expecting even more. If you have been wondering what a vocational qualification actually looks like, what you study, how long it takes, what careers it opens up, this is a great chance to ask those questions in person.
We will be there to talk through all of AIWT's courses. Come and find us at the Kwobadiny Sports Centre. Tuesday, see you there.

There is a point in community services work where the skills that got you here are not quite enough for where you want to go.
You are good at the work, you understand the people, the pressures, the complexity, but managing a service is a different set of skills entirely. That is exactly what the CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management is built for. Not theory for the sake of it. Practical management capability for the realities of running community sector services in Australia. Available to domestic and international students at AIWT, this qualification suits people who are ready to move from doing the work to leading it.

Most people think a career in early childhood starts after school. At AIWT, it can start while you're still there.
Through the VET in Schools program, Year 11 and 12 students can begin their CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care during school, starting from Term 1 of Year 11 and completing by Term 3 of Year 12. It is not a taster course, it is the real qualification, gained alongside your regular studies, giving you hands-on skills in child development, health and safety, and working collaboratively with educators in real early learning environments.
If you are in Year 10 or 11, or you know someone who is, this is worth looking into.

A lot of our students did not come to AIWT straight from school. Some were changing careers after years in a different industry. Some were returning to work after time away. Some just knew, at some point, that they wanted more, and decided to do something about it. Vocational training is not about starting over. It is about building on everything you already are, and adding the skills that take you where you want to go. At AIWT, our courses are practical, flexible and designed for real life, not just for people with the perfect schedule or the perfect background. If you have been thinking about it, this is your sign.
