The kindy children are exploring our city with a simple question:
“Where are you going today?"
Through open-ended conversations, maps, photos, role play, and shared experiences, the children are discovering the places that are important in our community. From parks and playgrounds to shops, homes, and community spaces, they are building connections to the world around them while developing their language, curiosity, and sense of belonging.
We can't wait to see where their investigations take them next!

World Ocean Day 🌊🐟🐳
Today, the children explored the fascinating animals that call our oceans home. During our provocation, they discovered that many of the sea creatures had become tangled in a fishing net and worked together to carefully rescue them.
As they freed the animals, the children engaged in meaningful conversations about caring for our oceans, protecting marine life, and the impact that human actions can have on the environment. Through collaborative problem solving, they developed empathy, communication skills, and an emerging understanding of environmental responsibility.
The play also sparked plenty of imagination, with some unexpected friendships forming along the way - including one between a whale shark and an orca!
Experiences like these support children to become confident, capable learners who are developing a sense of connection to and responsibility for the natural world.

WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT:
Congratulations to our incredible Pema on completing her Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Studies degree!
What a monumental achievement. After countless late nights, hand cramps from writing essays that seemed to multiply overnight, enough readings to fill a small library, and surviving on sheer determination, coffee, and probably a little bit of stubbornness, she has officially crossed the finish line.
We couldn't be prouder of everything you've accomplished, Pema. Your dedication, resilience, and passion have paid off in the most spectacular way.
Now please enjoy the strange feeling of not having an essay due at midnight.
This is a well-deserved moment 🌟

The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2026, All In, Within our learning community, encourages meaningful conversations, critical reflection and authentic engagement with First Nations cultures and histories. Through intentional practices, collaborative learning experiences and respectful partnerships with families and community, we support children to develop a strong sense of belonging, empathy and respect for diversity.
By being “All In”, we acknowledge that reconciliation is an ongoing journey, one that is strengthened through everyday actions, shared learning and a commitment to equity, inclusion and cultural responsiveness.
As a service, this is something we are collectively working on, and to strengthen our thought processes around these ideologies and cultural belief systems 🌿

RECIPE OF THE WEEK:
One of the recipes consistently enjoyed throughout our service is the Cheese and Vegetable Slice, which has become a familiar and well-loved part of our mealtime experience. It is particularly meaningful to observe how children are often more willing to explore and enjoy the meal when they see their friends confidently engaging with the food alongside them.
Mealtimes within the Piazza provide a calm and inviting environment where children can engage in meaningful shared experiences, develop a sense of belonging, and build positive relationships with food and one another.
The Piazza acts as a collaborative community space where conversations flourish, independence is encouraged, and children are supported to make choices, serve themselves, and participate in respectful social interactions.
Through these meaningful mealtime experiences, educators intentionally foster children’s confidence, wellbeing and agency while promoting healthy eating habits in a relaxed and connected environment.

Next Friday, 29th May, Nido Mount Hawthorn will proudly be taking part in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea in support of the Cancer Council ☕
Cancer is a journey that has touched the hearts of so many families, friends and communities. Behind every diagnosis is a story, a loved one, a moment of courage, and this is our opportunity to come together as a community and stand beside those affected.
We warmly invite our families and wider community to support this important cause through a small donation, with all funds raised going directly towards cancer research, support services, prevention programs and advocacy delivered by the Cancer Council.
Together, we can wrap our community in care, spark hope for families facing cancer, and help pour support into the places it is needed most.
