Congratulations to our very own Hammad Shahin and Grace Harding on being named among the inaugural Westpac Australia-Asia Fellows.
Selected as part of a group of 35 undergraduate and postgraduate students nationally, they reflect the next generation leaders Australia will need - curious, outward-looking and deeply engaged with the Asia-Pacific.
Supported by Westpac Scholars Trust, the fellowship is a world-class, nine-month experience across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam. Through immersive programs and leadership development, fellows continue to deepen cultural understanding, forge trusted relationships and build the confidence to lead across borders, helping to shape a stronger future for Australia.
Hammad Shahin previously studied law and international relations alongside Indonesian language,
developing deep regional experience through exchanges and language immersions in Indonesia. Drawing on his West Asian heritage, with family roots in Lebanon and Syria, he brings a personal perspective to his work strengthening Australia’s engagement with Indonesia and the broader region.
Grace Harding is interested in strengthening cooperation and stability in the Asia-Pacific through community-led development and cross-cultural partnership. Her experiences in leadership programs and a semester in Indonesia, including work with SOS Children’s Villages, have shaped her commitment to building trust, resilience and enduring regional collaboration.
