Year 10 Outdoor Recreation students recently completed their overnight camp, which serves as the culmination of their hard work and learning throughout the semester.
Students faced challenging conditions, with persistent rain throughout the hike from the Kalamunda Camel Farm to the Perth Hills Discovery Centre, passing the iconic Mundaring Weir along the way. Despite the wet weather, students demonstrated outstanding resilience, determination, and teamwork, embracing the challenge and supporting one another throughout the journey.
The camp was a fantastic opportunity for students to challenge themselves outside the classroom, develop practical outdoor skills and build confidence in a demanding environment. Well done to all students for their positive attitude and effort throughout the camp. 👏

A Message from the Principal

This week’s college update celebrates the end of examinations for students in years 10-12 and the return of our delightful morning bell chime. Neville Collard, a friend of the college since inception has returned this week to connect with staff. Former Year 12 student Emily Strika has been endorsed as a community member of the College Board for the next 12 months.
Today we share our continuing commitment and responses, regarding respectful language and behaviour at the College. There is an update on Europe Tour refunds and a reminder to take care when in traffics around the college. All this and much more in Volume 8 of the College Update published later this afternoon. Have a lovely weekend.

Q: When is a school excursion a learning experience for both the students AND the staff working at the place they’re visiting?
A: When our Year 11 Employment Pathways students collaborate with City of Subiaco staff in their library, museum and community development spaces.
Congratulations to the students for representing our college so magnificently in the community, and thanks to our staff and the team at City of Subiaco for making it happen. 👏🙏

Izzy (Year 12) recently represented Australia in the U18 Hockey Tour to India, competing in challenging conditions and helping the team secure a win and two draws.
He’s now been selected to represent WA at the U18 State Championships in Darwin this July—while continuing to train and compete at an elite level.
A fantastic achievement—well done, Izzy! 🙌

Recently we had a visit from Federal Member for Perth, the Honourable Patrick Gorman MP. During the visit, Mr Gorman presented the school with an Australian flag that has previously been flown at the Prime Minister’s Canberra residence, The Lodge. We’re grateful to Mr Gorman for his support and our ability to continue our strong links with Australian Prime Ministers through this gift. 🙏

A Message from the Principal

Congratulations to the Year 12’s who have just completed their examinations and best of luck to the Year 10 and 11 students who are still very much involved. This week we have observed Reconciliation Week, aligned to the national theme “All In”, recognising that everyone has a part to play, every day, in progressing reconciliation in our society.

Inclusion Coordinator Kate Reid and College Board Chair Catia Malaquias presented to a national conference on inclusive models in large secondary schools in Adelaide this week. We are still on track to process refunds to students affected by the cancellation of the March Europe Tour and awaiting the findings of the Insurance Commission of WA to proceed. Construction on the Court Place Development commences in August but the current focus is on collaboration with the City of Subiaco and the Developers to ensure a safe traffic and pedestrian management plan for our students, families and staff. Please feel free to contribute to our Business Plan consultation at https://tinyurl.com/BHCBPReview

In coming weeks students can get involved in fundraising through the DIY Big Freeze for MND and The Push up Challenge supporting mental health. Recently we have had a highly successful Biggest Morning Tea event for staff, and our P&C has generously supported a range of resource purchases that will directly impact student learning in classrooms and at events.

Have a lovely long weekend, one and all members of the Bob Hawke College community.

Students, join us in the Amphitheatre at lunchtime on Monday 8 June to cheer on our staff relay team as they take part in the DIY Big Freeze 12! It’s all for a great cause—raising awareness and support for FightMND. Don’t miss the fun!

National Reconciliation Week 2026 – ‘All In’
From 27 May to 3 June, we recognise National Reconciliation Week — a time to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and how we can all contribute to reconciliation.
The week marks two significant milestones — the 1967 Referendum and the High Court’s Mabo decision.
This year’s theme 'All In' encourages everyone to take action every day to progress reconciliation, not just during Reconciliation Week, and reminds us that reconciliation is a shared responsibility.
