Good luck to our rowers! 🚣

A time honoured tradition, our Iona rowers gathered together this afternoon to receive a blessing for the IGSSA Head of the River Regatta tomorrow morning.

Thank you to Sr Mary for delivering a beautiful blessing, and good luck to each of our rowers, staff, coaches and parents who will battle the waters (and the frost!) at Champion Lakes. GO IONA! 🔥

✨ Curated Reflections from a Presentation Heart ✨

On Thursday evening last week, an intimate audience gathered for a profound and inspiring night of authentic sharing, celebration and connection, marking the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the Presentation Congregation.

Through powerful reflections from Past Pupils, staff, parents and a current student, we heard how Nano’s lantern continues to be carried beyond Iona, shaping lives of faith, courage, compassion and service. Each reflection was paired with the beautiful artwork of our Year 12 Visual Art ATAR students, “Carriers of the Lantern”, creating a moving dialogue of story and image.

We were honoured to celebrate alongside many Presentation Sisters, as well as our student artists, special guests, staff and family members.

A beautiful reminder that the light of a Presentation education endures, guiding hearts and lighting the way for others, now and into the future.

👏 Congratulations to both Bonni (Year 11) and Indi (Year 9) for being shortlisted for the 2026 Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists!

Bonni's oil artwork, titled ‘Promenade at Macca’s’, cleverly juxtaposes Regency-era figures with a contemporary fast-food setting at , creating a witty and insightful commentary on the timeless nature of friendship and social connection. Bonni’s work balances humour and sophistication, inviting viewers to reflect on how shared experiences across generations remain strikingly similar.

Indi, her granny, and her granny’s dog’s shared love of eating was the inspiration behind her award worthy artwork. Studying the subject matter and painting style of WA artist , students learnt the painting techniques of colour matching, tonal blending and applying shadows and highlights to imply 3-dimensionality in her work. Indi’s chips certainly look good enough to eat!

Being shorlisted means both students are in their respective top 20–25 of their age category, and we wish Bonni and Indi every success as they progress into the next round that determines the winners and exhibited final artists!

Teeing off in Quadratics

Our Year 10 General Mathematics students have been studying quadratic functions and, to conclude the Term 2 topic, the class visited a local driving range to investigate a real-world example of quadratics!

By observing the flight of a golf ball, students were able to see how its curved trajectory forms a parabola and connect this to the graphs they had been studying in class.

It was interesting to see the progression throughout the afternoon, with many early shots following more linear paths before students began producing smoother parabolic arcs as their technique improved. Truly an example of mathematicians (and athletes) in training!
