An unpopular opinion? "It's normal to be worried about your next moderation visit!"
So many times I hear from families who have had to scramble to pull together evidence at moderation time because putting together documentation has felt too hard, overwhelming and just another thing to do in a long list of things that 'must' be done.
The families I work with don't ever have those feelings of dread because every single week they receive a detailed report of their child's learning, linked to the curriculum and laid out in a way that the moderator's love! This shifts your moderator visit from stressful to a beautiful showcasing of your child's learning and growth - which is exactly one of the reason's you chose to homeschool in the first place.
"Are you feeling prepared for your next moderator's visit? What's the part you find hardest?"

Sometimes it's really hard to ask for what we want or even need - and kids are no exception!
One of my awesome students finds it hard to say when she is getting tired and ready to finish her session... so I introduced the 'Get out of jail free!" card 😉
Now, whenever she is getting tired she puts the card on the desk and I know it's time to finish for the day.
Sometimes it just takes a bit of imagination and a sense of humour to meet kids where they are and let them know that they are heard ❤

When your child just can't do school... their nervous system is overloaded and overwhelmed and before even thinking about going back to 'learning' again - they need to re-set.
That's where we come in... analogue, mindful, thoughtful strategies that allow your child's body, mind and spirit to re-balance and simply to breathe.
Two hours, once a week... a beautifully slow and steady journey back into being centred once again.

I pull up in a bus - a genuine classroom on wheels. And when I say this is not your 'standard' classroom, I really do mean it! 👩🏫
I'm Sonia, and I am the founder of The Touring Teacher — a mobile classroom that comes to you.
I work with homeschooling families (and families thinking about making the jump). Especially kids who learn differently - kids with ASD, PDA, ADHD or who've just never quite fit the mould of a traditional classroom. It is exactly these kids that I started this for.
Yes, I teach but more importantly, I truly care. This is my absolute non negotiable. It is who I am and like most parents, I am pretty sure this matters to you too. Not in a "that sounds nice on a flyer" sort of way but in an "I will sit with your child and figure out exactly where they're at and what lights them up" way. If I can help a family — even if they never book me — I will do everything I can to help them sort out what they need, because while The Touring Teacher is my business - it's so much more than that - it's my calling and my passion.
I show up as a professional - always, partnering with families in their child's education to help them find their own path into the world.
Every visit means personalised lessons, links to the Australian curriculum, a detailed feedback report, with photos and descriptions of what we did and why it matters. That report isn't just a nice touch — it's solid evidence for your annual moderation visit. I'm not just teaching your child, I'm helping you feel confident that you're getting this right.
My clients trust and communicate openly with me, and understand that great learning takes time. My support for your child is not a quick fix, but I am a consistent, reliable presence that gets to know your child — really know them — and that builds lesson to lesson, week to week. I will always respect your time, and your family's routine. That's why coming to your home allows me to work with your schedule.
I bring genuine expertise to your door. I'm a qualified teacher who has chosen to build something different — something that actually serves kids who deserve better than a one-size-fits-all approach.
The reputation I'm building is simple: trustworthy, caring, and genuinely passionate about kids' education being effective, engaging and enjoyable!
I want families to feel safe recommending me to their friends. I want kids to look forward to the bus pulling up. And I want parents to read those feedback reports and think — yes, someone finally gets my child.
I am committed to this standard - every single visit.
If you're a homeschooling family wondering whether you're on the right track — or if you're just starting out and feeling a little lost — I'd love to talk. No pressure, no sales pitch. Just a chat that helps you feel at ease knowing that you have a partner in your child's learning who's got your back.
💬 What's one thing you wish more educators understood about your child or your family's approach to learning?

** Tangible Tuesday **
Maths can be challenging to learn (and teach!) as so many of the concepts are abstract.
That's where 'tangible manipulatives' a.k.a.: things you can hold, touch and move around 😉 shine ✨️
This is our printable 'Hundreds Chart' and accompanying numbers - two sets, one each of red and blue. I have printed out the numbers, glued each corresponding number back to back with its partner and then laminated them and the board for longevity. PS I got the board laminated at Officeworks.
Protecting them is worth while because you can make use of these from Pre-primary through to the end of primary school and even into the high school years.
However, you don't need to do any of this if you are not keen to print and laminate, so a piece of cardboard and pieces of paper with a number on each side in a different colour works just as well!
The pics here show a 1 to 10 number line, skip counting by 2s and understanding place value showing how the tens column can look - and so much more!!
If you are interested in getting a 🌟 FREE 🌟copy of the 100s chart, numbers and a lesson idea for a year level of your choice, message me with your email address and year group and I will send it through.
Enjoy making your kids maths fun!!

One of my student's Mum's, Sarah asked me to share this because she thought you would understand.
"I chose to homeschool my son because the school system genuinely wasn't working for him. And I don't regret it. But some days I sat at the kitchen table surrounded by half-finished activities and I thought... am I actually teaching him anything? Or am I just winging it and hoping for the best?
The moderation stuff especially did my head in. Like — I KNOW my kid is learning. I can see it. But turning that into evidence? In the right format? With curriculum links?? I didn't sign up to be an admin assistant.
Anyway. Found something that I genuinely didn't know existed and I'm still a bit emotional about it. Sharing in case anyone else needs it."💛
