🎶Building Confidence Through Songwriting: David’s Music Therapy Journey 🎶
With support from his music therapist Sebastian Green, David wrote and recorded his own original song, Dreams.
David usually prefers expressing himself through the piano, so this project was especially meaningful as he stepped outside his comfort zone and sang his own lyrics. What began with some nervousness around sharing ideas and singing gradually grew into a song that was almost entirely written by David himself.
David quickly found his own songwriting style and has used the ideas and motivation from this project to continue creating new songs in his future music therapy sessions!
In this video, you'll see snippets of David developing Dreams in music therapy sessions, along with a special performance for his mum and little brother. After weeks of songwriting, practising melodies and harmonies and building confidence, David proudly shared his song with his family.
Well done, David! ⭐⭐⭐

We love seeing our walls come to life with artwork created by the people we work with.
This week we added a beautiful piece by David - capturing a Tasmanian river landscape. We're grateful that he chose to share it with us.
(And a shout-out to Tom for helping install it during his clinical practicum!)
Watch Eli’s milestone moment — playing the violin functionally for the first time in music therapy.
This accomplishment is no small feat!
Eli has a diagnosis of Bainbridge-Ropers syndrome, which affects his motor planning, coordination and everyday movement skills (like holding a pencil and drawing independently).
In this session with music therapist Lydia, Eli explored the violin in a new way. He used a more organised, elbow-led movement to draw the bow across the strings instead of his usual wrist-flicking pattern. This helped him produce a clearer and more sustained sound. He also maintained an upright seated posture throughout the activity without physical support, allowing for greater stability and engagement in the music.
Pride, surprise and joy all landed at once - you can see it on Eli's face! He understood that what had just happened wasn’t by chance, but because of him.
Moments like this are meaningful not because everything is “perfect,” but because they show new possibilities in how a child can organise, respond and participate in music-making.
Here's Eli's mum, Katia, sharing what this moment meant to both her and Eli.

Come and see our new artwork by Arunan Dharmalingam at the clinic.
Some of us had the privilege of working with Arunan many years ago. Arunan is a non-speaking autistic artist who expresses his thoughts and feelings through a communication tablet, visuals, gestures, sounds and most importantly, through his art.
He has a deep love of animals and draws inspiration from the world around him. We’re so fortunate to now have Peacock, Chicken and Elephant brightening our space.
Interested in seeing more of Arunan’s artwork? Follow him on Instagram at
PS: Big thanks to Tom, our music therapy student with a very official side role as art installer 😄
There was sudden excitement outside the clinic today when Rob, our director, heard the familiar music of the local ice cream van 🍦😂
Honestly, it felt a bit like primary school all over again — except this time we were eating ice cream between sessions.
Thanks Rob for the surprise afternoon treat 🍦

Saturday mornings at Sound Expression are really something special ☕️
What started as parents bringing their children to therapy has grown into connection, conversation, support… into “The Breakfast Club.”
While the children are inside engaging in music therapy, friendships are forming outside too. Parents sharing stories, encouragement, recommendations, laughs and sometimes simply sitting with people who understand.
We’re so grateful that Sound Expression can be more than just a therapy space for children - but also a community where families feel seen, supported and connected with one another. 💛
These small moments matter. Community matters.
