Year 1 students recently enjoyed a wonderful day of discovery as they travelled by train to South Bank for their excursion.
The girls explored the Queensland Museum Kurilpa and SparkLab, sparking curiosity and hands-on learning, before enjoying a picnic lunch and a walk back through South Bank.
With 65 students and 20 adults attending, it was a fantastic day of learning, exploration and fun for everyone involved. 💚

Year 5 students recently stepped back in time at the Eureka Gold Rush excursion, enjoying a day of hands-on learning and discovery. From panning for gold and building shelters to making damper, students experienced life on the 1850s goldfields while exploring the challenges and opportunities of the era. 💚

Hannah’s selection as an Intermediate Cast Member in Ballet Theatre Queensland’s 2026 production of Snow White is a wonderful recognition of her talent, commitment and hard work. As part of one of Queensland’s premier youth ballet companies, Hannah has earned the opportunity to perform in a large-scale classical ballet production, reflecting the dedication and discipline she brings to her training and artistic development.
We look forward to seeing her shine on stage at The Star Gold Coast and Queensland Performing Arts Centre from 2–12 July.

A fantastic result at the Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association Cross Country, with our student athletes showing outstanding courage and determination, securing an impressive 5th place overall, our best aggregate finish in many years, along with 3rd in the Percentage Trophy.
In challenging conditions, 51 of our 72 competitors achieved personal season bests, an incredible effort and a testament to their hard work.
Congratulations to every student on a remarkable performance.💚

Our recent SomerSounds Concert was a wonderful twilight celebration of music, showcasing the talent and dedication of our individual ensembles. With strong attendance from our community, it was a fantastic evening, and our students were truly impressive in their performances.
Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this event together so superbly, and to all who attended and supported our musicians.

Four Year 11 Legal Studies students recently stepped into the role of MPs for a day at the Queensland Parliament 2026 Legal Studies Youth Parliament.
From delivering speeches in the Chamber to debating important issues, our students demonstrated confidence, teamwork and a genuine passion for making a difference. Charli M and Leila M presented well-reasoned, articulate speeches on freedom of speech and mental health, while Matilda R worked within the Press Gallery, conducting interviews with Youth Members of Parliament. Sierra C supported the team as a dedicated photographer and cheerleader.
We are incredibly proud of the way each student represented Somerville House and contributed their ideas for the future of their communities. 💚
