π§΅βοΈβοΈ Year 8 TextilesβοΈβοΈπ§΅
Our Year 8 Textiles students explored the fascinating world of fabrics and fibres by designing and rendering seasonal outfits π¨π
Through their creative work, students investigated the properties of wool for warm winter wear π§₯βοΈ and cotton for cool, comfortable summer clothing πβοΈ, learning how fabric choice influences both style and functionality.
We are proud to showcase some of their imaginative, colourful and stylish designs, which demonstrate both creativity and a growing understanding of textile materials β¨πͺ‘π

π¨β¨ Our Year 10 Drawing & Sculpture students recently enjoyed an inspiring full-day artist incursion with Melbourne multidisciplinary artist Tracey Lamb.
Students explored Tracey's creative processes and techniques before using bamboo and twine to construct organic freestanding sculptures that investigated the relationship between positive and negative space πΏπͺ’. They also created expressive gouache drawings, experimenting with new artistic approaches and developing their technical skills ποΈπ.
It was a fantastic opportunity to learn from a practising artist, explore new materials and challenge their creative thinking through hands-on artmaking π‘π¨π
We thank Tracey for sharing her expertise and inspiring our students to think creatively, take risks and embrace the artistic process β¨π
Year 10 Textiles β Corset Design Projectπ§΅β¨
Throughout Semester 1, Year 10 Textiles students investigated the work of an Australian designer as inspiration for the development of their own corset design ππ¨
Students undertook the complete design process, researching their chosen designer, generating and refining design ideas, and planning, constructing and evaluating their final garment. Each corset reflects the unique aesthetic of the selected designer while showcasing the students' creativity, technical skill and attention to detail βοΈπͺ‘
This project encouraged students to think creatively, solve design challenges and develop their textile construction skills through a substantial design task π‘β¨ The finished garments are a testament to the dedication, craftsmanship and perseverance demonstrated by students throughout the semester.
Congratulations to all students on their outstanding work and the high quality of their finished designs ππ

π Refugee Week 2026 | A Million Stories π
This Refugee Week, our Killester College community proudly embraced the theme "A Million Stories", recognising the milestone of Australia welcoming one million refugees since the end of World War II.
In a powerful celebration of identity, belonging and hope, students and staff shared their own family stories of migration and refuge, creating a visual display that reflects the rich diversity of our community. These stories traced journeys from Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand; India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Malaysia; Indonesia and the Pacific Islands; Italy, the Netherlands, France, Greece and Germany; South America, the USA, Canada and many more.
Together, these stories represent the remarkable tapestry of cultures that make up Killester College β a community representing 152 nations.
As part of the display, students and staff contributed the word "Welcome" in their language of origin, creating a powerful symbol of hospitality, inclusion and belonging.
Inspired by the Brigidine tradition and guided by the Living Justice, Living Peace Charter, we recognise that every person carries a story of courage, resilience and hope. By listening to these stories, we deepen our understanding of one another and strengthen our commitment to walking in solidarity with all people.
A special thank you to our Justice and Celebrations Committee for bringing this project to life and creating a visual reminder that our diversity is one of our greatest strengths.
152 nations. A million stories. One community of faith, justice and welcome: Killester College

βThis Refugee Week, we reflect on the theme Finding Freedom, the universal hope to live in safety, to enjoy basic human rights, and to be free from fear and persecution.
At BASP, we are a place of welcome. We stand alongside people seeking safety, honouring their courage and the immense strength it takes to begin again in a new country. Their resilience reminds us why community, dignity, and genuine hospitality matter.
Every day, we see what freedom can grow into when people are met with respect, stability, and a chance to rebuild their lives.β

ππ Vocational Major at Killester ππ
At Killester College, our Vocational Major (VM) program empowers students to learn through real-world experiences while living our college values of Strength and Kindliness every day.
Through hands-on learning, community partnerships, workplace experiences and social justice initiatives, our VM students develop the confidence, resilience and practical skills needed for life beyond school. They learn that strength is found in perseverance, responsibility and leadership, while kindliness is demonstrated through service, compassion and making a positive difference in the lives of others.
From creating and selling heat bags to support charitable organisations, operating Brigid's Blessing, participating in community projects and building workplace skills, our students discover that success is not only measured by what they achieve, but by how they contribute to their community.
The VM pathway provides opportunities for students to grow as capable learners, confident individuals and active citizens - living our motto of Strength and Kindliness in all they do.

π π Bringing designs to life!
In Year 10 Architecture and Object Design, students responded to a Design Brief by creating an architectural design for their client. Beginning with hand-drawn plans, students then used FloorPlanner to transform their 2D concepts into detailed 3D designs β¨
From cafΓ©s and tiny homes to family-sized residences, students demonstrated creativity, problem-solving and design thinking while developing their architectural skills π‘π¨
It was exciting to see their ideas evolve from sketches on paper into immersive digital designs, bringing their visions to life through technology and innovation π‘π
