DANCER OF THE MONTH
It's the irrepressible David! We love having him light up the dance floor and share his love of the dance with us.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN SWING DANCING?
I was sitting on the library stairs at University in a suit during O-Week, and my friend's girlfriend said, “You should do swing dancing, you are dressed perfectly for it!”. In a group chat I was told “Yeah, nah, you couldn’t do that”. Determined to prove them wrong, I did the class, I stared at the clock for the first 15 minutes, and since then, I’ve never looked back.
LINDY HOP, BALBOA, COLLEGIATE S**G, CHARLESTON - WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE AND WHY?
My go-to dance is Balboa. I can dance it economically for my body after a long night of dancing and retain the playfulness. I find it a versatile dance as I enjoy dancing it to beats per minute from as low as 60 to as high as 250.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT SOCIAL DANCING?
I have found there is an exceptionally satisfying feeling when you, your partner and the music are all in sync without saying a word to each other - the dancer’s mind-meld. I like to laugh and make my partner laugh on the dance floor. It’s very endearing seeing people I don’t recognise at socials, it reinforces this thing we love will continue to be around.
WHAT MAKES SWING CENTRAL A GREAT PLACE TO DANCE?
Swing Central is a reliable event that is beginner-friendly, has lots of space, friendly door staff, kind teachers, solid DJs with a good mix of music, and comes with a side of Troy ;)

DJ ANNOUNCEMENT #1
It's Silvy making her DJ debut this Friday 12 June!
After more than a decade on the floor dancing lindy hop, Charleston, balboa, and blues across local and international dance floors, Silvy aka DJ MissMeow has spent countless hours hunting down music that makes bodies move. Now she gets to share that collection with you.
Expect the classics you know and love, plus a few hidden gems you might not have heard yet. DJ MissMeow is particularly drawn to music that is sweet and cheeky - tracks that give dancers the space to play, get creative, and find their own joy in the music.
Behind the decks for the first time, she aims to read the room, balancing tempos and matching energy, always chasing that moment when the music and the dancers are in perfect conversation.

Make sure you put 12 June in your diary - what better way to celebrate the start of winter than with a little dancing ❄️✨

DANCER OF THE MONTH
Awww it's one of our favourites, it's Natia! Always bringing sweet treats and smiles, we love it when she comes to Swing Central.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN SEING DANCING?
Newtown SwingPatrol with Brock & Derrick. I remember walking by the class one day and being inspired hearing lovely jazz tunes and seeing people having a laugh while learning to dance. It all seemed like so much fun, and it was!
WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
Great way to connect with the friends I've made in this excellent community. And it beats going to the gym for exercise!
LINDY HOP, BALBOA, COLLEGIATE S**G, CHARLESTON - WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE AND WHY?
That's tough...I love being able to dance all of these styles. But if I had to pick one, I'd say Balboa... I thought it looked really hard as people usually dance it to fast music but it's not, it's just different steps & styling. And for me, it's easier to dance fast songs with bal than swing.
WHAT MAKES SWING CENTRAL A GREAT PLACE TO DANCE?
I can always count on a wonderful night of dancing at Swing Central, as it brings together lots of fantastic people. It's a great place for new beginners to get started too.
I love helping the dance community grow, so if you're still finding your (dance) feet and hesitant who to ask, feel free to ask me for a dance anytime!

DJ ANNOUNCEMENT #3
It’s DJ Ben! We love when Ben comes to play for us at Swing Central because he knows what makes a Lindy Hop Party Hit and will keep those fun, swingin’ tunes rolling. Once he starts the first song, you’re sure to find yourself up and out of your seat and on the dance floor. Get ready for a fantastic way to end the week, Friday 9 May.

We want to give a HUGE shout out to Jono, who has gone above and beyond for us recently. Our trusty oversized floor fan stopped working last month and Jono volunteered to take it home and try to get it working again. He tried several different options and kept us informed over the weeks. The fan couldn't be rescued (don't worry - we've got a new one ready for Friday) but his kindness and dedication to try to help us is exactly what makes us love our Swing Dance community so much. Cheers Jono!! From Merilyn & Christina.
