A small shift that makes a big difference: students who improve the most are the ones who are willing to ask questions and learn from feedback. Growth comes from being open to learning, not getting everything right the first time.

One of the most common challenges students face is not answering the question directly. Taking a moment to break down the key words in the question can make a big difference to clarity and marks.

Winter solstice — the shortest day of the year. A perfect opportunity to stay indoors, get comfy and read!

Expanding vocabulary helps students express ideas more clearly and confidently. Even learning one new word each week can build strong writing over time.

One of the most powerful ways to improve writing is through regular reading. Exposure to strong writing helps students develop their own voice and ideas.

Refugee Week. Literature allows students to explore stories of identity, belonging and resilience. These perspectives help build empathy and understanding.

Strong responses don’t happen by chance. Taking a few minutes to plan ideas before writing helps students create more structured and thoughtful answers.

We’re halfway through the term — a great time for students to ask: What am I confident with, and what do I need to improve? Small adjustments now make a big difference later.
