Learn and Laugh Five Dock

At Learn and Laugh Five Dock, we value children as capable, curious learners who thrive through hands-on, meaningful experiences. Today on our writing table, children are invited to explore scissors, glue sticks, sticky tape, and cut-out magazine letters as part of their early literacy journey.

We believe school readiness is built through play, relationships, and everyday experiences that support social, emotional, and self-help skills alongside early literacy development. Through activities like these, children begin to recognise letters, explore their names, and develop confidence in written expression in ways that are natural and engaging.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, we view the environment as the “third teacher,” where children are encouraged to investigate, create, and express themselves through rich, open-ended materials. Loris Malaguzzi emphasised, children have “a hundred languages” to express their thinking.

We also support children in developing independence through meaningful routines such as signing their name each morning, fostering identity, belonging, and early literacy in authentic contexts.

Through play-based, child-led learning experiences, we nurture confident, capable learners who are ready for school and life beyond it.

🌿 Rest time is about more than sleep. It provides children with the opportunity to slow down, listen to their bodies, and regulate their emotions after a busy morning of learning and play. Whether they choose to rest, look at a book, or simply relax on a yoga mat, children are given the space to ground themselves, recharge, and build important self-regulation skills. Creating moments of calm helps children return to their day feeling settled, refreshed, and ready to learn. 💚
