Vale Dr James McCaughan, 6 July 1939 - 12 June 2026.

Jim McCaughan was an Academic Fellow of Warrane College, a Non-Resident Member before the current building was even built in 1970, and a huge supporter of the College.

He was a physicist, a philosopher and a father, a keen lover of cricket and the arts, he achieved his PhD from The University of Sydney and was a long-standing Senior Lecturer in Physics. He was also the Assistant Director of the Centre for Human Aspects of Science and Technology, Sydney, 1986-1991.

Jim married Genevieve in 1983 and had 11 children, including Fr Daniel McCaughan, of the Archdiocese of Sydney. A stalwart parishioner of St Peter's Surry Hills, and a faithful servant of the Church, academia and broader society.

Even while suffering greatly with cancer, Jim was a regular visitor to the College every Monday evening, to pray and seek the sacraments, right up to only a few weeks ago.

Thank you for your service Jim, may you rest in peace. 🙏

Parnell has researched and written extensively on "Generation Trapped" Australia's 18-34 year olds who are struggling to gain financial freedom and achieve the simple life goals that all generations before took for granted. How did we get here? And how do we get out of it?
