ππ¦ Exploring, Imagining and Connecting Through Play π¦πΏ
Today our children engaged in rich, hands-on learning experiences that sparked their curiosity, creativity and sense of wonder.
In our dinosaur sensory exploration, children used diggers, loose materials and dinosaur figurines to create their own prehistoric world. As they scooped, excavated and navigated around the erupting volcano, they developed fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities and imaginative thinking while engaging in collaborative play with their peers.
Our nature and culture invitation encouraged children to explore Australian animals, natural materials and Indigenous-inspired artwork. Through storytelling, role play and discussions about the environment, children strengthened their understanding of belonging, identity and respect for the world around them. The use of dolls, native animals, leaves and natural treasures supported conversations about diversity, community and caring for Country.
These experiences fostered creativity, language development, social connections and a deeper appreciation of the natural world, all while learning through play.

πβ¨ Learning Through Play & Exploration β¨π
Our little learners have been busy discovering colours in exciting hands-on ways!
π§ͺ In our sensory science tray, children explored colour mixing using droppers, liquid colours, and foam. They observed how colours changed and blended, developing curiosity, fine motor skills, and early scientific thinking.
π In our purple-themed sensory tray, children investigated different shades, textures, and objects while strengthening their colour recognition, language, sorting, and observation skills.
Sensory play encourages creativity, problem-solving, concentration, and confidence as children learn through exploration and experimentation. Watching their excitement as they make discoveries is always a highlight of our day!

πΏπ» Learning Through Play β Bear Hunt Adventure π»πΏ
Today our children explored a range of sensory-rich experiences inspired by the story Weβre Going on a Bear Hunt.
The children engaged in a large sensory tray representing the different environments from the story, including swishy grass, squelchy mud, a sparkling river, crunchy snow, and a bearβs cave. Through hands-on exploration, children used their senses to investigate textures, colours, and natural materials while developing their imagination and storytelling skills.
Alongside this, children explored a sensory discovery cube created from recycled materials. The cube encouraged curiosity, fine motor development, problem-solving, and sensory exploration as children manipulated different objects, textures, and loose parts attached to each side.
These experiences supported outcomes from the Early Years Learning Framework by encouraging children to:
β¨ Explore and investigate their environment
β¨ Develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
β¨ Use language and communication through storytelling
β¨ Build confidence, curiosity, and creativity
β¨ Connect with natural and recycled materials in meaningful ways
It was wonderful to see the children actively engaged, sharing ideas with their peers, and bringing the story to life through play-based learning. π±ππ»π

π Learning Through Play Today π
Today, the children engaged in a variety of hands-on experiences that encouraged creativity, problem-solving, coordination and imaginative thinking.
π³ Bowling Fun!
The children enjoyed a bowling challenge with a twist, aiming to knock down the βflamingβ pins. This experience supported gross motor development, hand-eye coordination, balance and concentration as children practised rolling the ball and predicting outcomes.
π Ocean Small World Exploration
Our ocean sensory setup invited children to explore marine life through imaginative play. Children used sea animals, coral and ocean-themed resources to create stories, discuss habitats and learn about the creatures that live beneath the sea. This experience encouraged language development, creativity, social interaction and an appreciation for the natural world.
Through play-based learning, children developed confidence, communication skills and an understanding of cause and effect while having fun with their peers

Learning About Spiders with Mud π·οΈ
Today we explored spiders by creating our own mud spiders using natural materials. We used mud for the body and sticks and twigs for the legs, then placed our creations on a tree to see how they looked in a natural habitat.
This hands-on activity helped us:
Count spider legs (8!)
Practice fine motor skills
Explore textures and natural materials
Learn about where spiders live and how they camouflage
A fun way to combine nature, creativity, and science learning!

πΏ Learning Through Connection, Culture and Nature πΏ
This week, the children engaged in meaningful experiences that supported their understanding of culture, creativity and the natural world.
Through our Reconciliation and βAll Inβ displays, children explored belonging, respect and appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. The collaborative heart artwork encouraged self-expression while promoting a sense of community and inclusion.
Children also participated in nature-based learning experiences using clay, natural materials, herbs and loose parts. These open-ended activities supported creativity, problem-solving, fine motor development and sensory exploration as children investigated textures, shapes and patterns found in nature.
Outdoors, the children enjoyed creating nature potions using leaves, herbs, water and citrus. This hands-on experience encouraged scientific thinking, imaginative play and teamwork as children mixed, experimented and shared their discoveries with peers.
These experiences reflect our commitment to providing rich learning opportunities that foster curiosity, cultural awareness, creativity and a connection to the environment. ππ€π

π¦ Learning about Batsπ¦
Our children have been exploring the fascinating world of bats through creative art experiences, sensory play and hands-on learning. Using a variety of materials, the children created their own bat displays while learning about nocturnal animals, habitats and the unique features that make bats special.
Through this experience, children developed their fine motor skills, creativity and self-expression while engaging in conversations about the natural world. They shared ideas, asked questions and worked together to create a collaborative learning display that transformed our learning environment into a bat cave adventure.
This project encouraged curiosity, imagination and an appreciation for wildlife through play-based learning. Research shows that bat-themed activities can support scientific inquiry, language development, creativity and sensory exploration in early childhood settings. οΏΌ

π³π¦ Learn 2 Swim Incursion β BlueFit Swimming π¦π³
Today, the children enjoyed a fun and engaging Learn 2 Swim incursion presented by the team from BlueFit Swimming at Mount Annan Leisure Centre.
Through interactive activities, storytelling, and discussions with the friendly whale mascot, the children explored important water safety messages and learned how to stay safe in and around water. They discussed the importance of listening to swimming instructors, following safety rules, and building confidence around aquatic environments.
These experiences support childrenβs understanding of personal safety, wellbeing, and healthy lifestyles while making learning enjoyable and meaningful.
A big thank you to the team from Mount Annan Leisure Centre for visiting us and sharing their valuable knowledge and expertise with our children today! πββοΈπ

π Nature & Fine Motor Exploration π
Our children have been engaging in hands-on learning experiences that encourage creativity, concentration and fine motor development. Using natural materials collected from the environment, children explored colour, texture and pattern as they created unique artworks with leaves and bark. This experience supported sensory exploration, imagination and a connection to the natural world.
βοΈ Children also participated in finger-tracing activities, following a variety of shapes and patterns to strengthen early writing skills, hand-eye coordination and pencil control. These experiences help build the foundation for future literacy and numeracy learning while encouraging confidence and persistence.
Through play-based learning, children are developing important skills while having fun exploring, creating and discovering
