This World Refugee Day, we honour the courage and resilience of people forced to leave their homes in search of safety and a life with dignity.
At the heart of every one of their stories is a voice that matters. Strong language and literacy skills empower young refugees to build confidence, express themselves and shape their own narrative.

Literacy helps connect us all. It’s the foundation for belonging and freedom, ensuring that every voice is heard and every story has a chance to be told.
Through our community-based programs, we support young refugees to develop essential language, literacy and communication skills. These programs do more than teach reading and writing - they build confidence, foster a sense of belonging, and help students find their voice.

Imagination is where children test ideas, explore emotions and make sense of the world.
Whether they are pretending, storytelling or inventing games, imaginative play supports creativity, language development and problem solving.
There is real learning happening in every imagined world.

Think about that - nearly half of all Australian adults can't read the instructions on a medicine bottle when their child is ill, or fill out a form, or read a label on a food package.
Literacy is not just about being able to read and write. It's about giving people the vital tools and confidence to participate meaningfully in society, improve their health and wellbeing, and live a life with dignity.

Children learn by asking questions. Why? How? What if...?
Every question is a step toward understanding the world, and is a powerful foundation for literacy. When children explore ideas through questions, they build critical thinking, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. Encouraging curiosity helps them grow as confident thinkers and lifelong learners.

Reading and writing are not just skills. They are power.
They are the ability to fill out a form without fear, to read a medical report, to help your child with homework, to understand your rights, to tell your story in your own words and to speak up and be heard. Literacy gives people the tools to shape their own future instead of having it shaped for them.
This National Reconciliation Week, we’re asking our community to go all in for literacy, Language, and a voice for all Australians.
If you can make a donation, no matter the size, it genuinely matters.

We see everyday how deeply literacy is connected to justice, equality and reconciliation. Literacy gives people the tools to shape their own future instead of having it shaped for them.
For many First Nations children, families and communities, access to strong literacy and language learning has been denied for too many generations through systems that excluded, silenced and disconnected people from opportunity. Reconciliation means facing that truth honestly, but it also means believing something better is possible and being willing to invest in it.
It means making sure every child has the chance to learn, to read, to write, to speak their language proudly and to decide their own future.
This National Reconciliation Week, we’re asking you to join us and go all in for literacy, Language and a voice for all Australians.
If you can, please make a donation today. Your support can help us continue our vital work with First Nations communities.
