Every family has moments waiting to be uncovered: the migrant journey, the mystery photograph, the unexpected connection, or the ancestor whose story changes how you see yourself.

At Society of Australian Genealogists, we help people take those first steps (and the next ones too). Whether youe completely new to family history or ready to build your research skills, there are so many ways to get involved:
• 📚 Beginners Practical Introduction to Family History
• 🧬 DNA and genealogy programs
• 💻 Online lectures, workshops and webinars
• 🏛️ Library and research support
• 👥 Research groups and community events

You don’t need to have all the answers to begin, sometimes one document, one photo, or one conversation is enough to start the journey.

Come connect with a community that shares your curiosity and passion for family stories.

Thank you to all of our Mums and mother figures both in the world and in our family histories - today and every day.

There’s often a moment in family history research that stays with you - a photograph rediscovered, a line in a diary, or a story passed quietly through generations.

Now is the time to transform that spark into something enduring.

The Croker Prize for Biography is open to all financial members of the Society of Australian Genealogists, and we invite you to share the story of the relative you most wish you’d known.

✍️ Entries should include:
• A biographical essay of 800–1,000 words
• Based on one of your relatives
• Inspired by this year’s theme: The relative I wish I’d met

📅 Entries close: 31 May 2026
See the link in the comments for full conditions of entry.

The Croker Prize is more than a writing competition — it is an opportunity to preserve family stories, develop your skills as a storyteller, and contribute to the rich tradition of biography and family history.
