WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A SECURITY DOOR

Not all products marketed as "security doors" offer the same level of protection.

The National Security Screen Association is committed to helping Australian consumers make informed choices by promoting compliance, education, and industry best practice.

One of the most important things to look for is compliance labelling. Security screen products should be labelled to demonstrate they have been manufactured in accordance with Australian Standard AS 5039.1:2023 and installed in accordance with Australian Standard AS 5039.2:2024.

The reality is, if it's not labelled, it's not compliant – potentially leaving homeowners and principal contractors at risk.

When it comes to protecting your home and family, don't be fooled by imposter products or prices that seem too good to be true. Choose Australian Made, professionally manufactured and installed security doors from an NSSA Member.

NEW NSSA INDUSTRY CODE OF PRACTICE RELEASED -
DUAL DIRECTION KNIFE SHEAR TESTING

The NSSA has officially published the Industry Code of Practice (ICP) on Dual Direction Knife Shear Testing - a significant milestone for the Australian Security Screen Industry and the first ICP of its kind in our sector.
This code is voluntary but has received exceptional support with the majority of Australian system suppliers and testing facilities signing up as participants.

WHY THIS MATTERS
Concerns have escalated around quantities of low-quality security mesh entering the Australian market. While some of these products may perform adequately when tested in one direction, they can fail significantly when tested in the opposite direction, exposing consumers to unacceptable risk.

The NSSA Technical Committee identified this gap and worked collaboratively with industry stakeholders to develop a more rigorous and practical testing protocol aligned to real-world conditions. This new Industry Code of Practice ensures security mesh from participating businesses demonstrates genuine cut resistance across both testing directions, providing confidence in their product's performance and compliance.

PARTICIPATING BUSINESSES
Mesh/System Suppliers:
Alutech | Amplimesh | Clearshield | CommandeX | Crimsafe | Doric | Franklyn | Lincoln Sentry | Meshtec | Panther Protect | Prowler Proof | ScreenGuard

Testing Laboratories:
Azuma Design | Capral Aluminium | FGC Laboratories | Meshtec

THE RESULT
Specifiers, builders, fabricators and consumers can now make purchasing decisions with greater confidence, knowing participating businesses are aligned to a higher, independently testing standard.

This initiative highlights the critical role the NSSA plays in strengthening standards, improving transparency, supporting compliance, and helping to protect Australian consumers.

We thank our Technical Committee, participating businesses, and NSSA Industry Partners for their contribution to this important work.

The NSSA welcomes additional businesses to participate in the ICP. To learn more, please contact us directly: [email protected]
