Can fasting help improve gum health?
A new study from King's College London found that short-term calorie restriction may reduce inflammation linked to gum disease (periodontitis).
Researchers observed that people following a structured low-calorie diet had:
â
Lower gum inflammation
â
Lower levels of C-reactive protein (CRP)
â
Reduced inflammatory markers in both blood and gum tissue
đ Why is this important?
Gum disease is not just a dental problem. It has been linked to conditions such as:
â¤ī¸ Heart disease
𩸠Diabetes
đώ Tooth loss
Researchers believe that reducing oxidative stress and improving the body's inflammatory response may be part of the reason fasting showed benefits.
â ī¸ Important: This does not mean everyone should start fasting. People with certain medical conditions, including diabetes, should always seek professional medical advice before making major dietary changes.
Healthy gums start with:
â Regular brushing
â Flossing
â Dental checkups
â A healthy lifestyle

Could gut bacteria influence brain development?
A new study suggests that a baby's earliest biological programming and gut microbiome may work together to influence neurodevelopment.
Researchers found that:
đļ Biological changes present at birth may affect how gut bacteria develop during infancy
đĻ Certain beneficial bacteria were linked to a lower likelihood of autism (ASD) and ADHD-related traits by age 3
đĨ Factors such as breastfeeding, delivery method, antibiotic exposure, and older siblings all influenced the infant gut microbiome
đ The findings do NOT mean autism or ADHD are determined at birth. These conditions are complex and influenced by many factors.
However, the research raises an exciting possibility: one day, specific probiotics or microbiome-based therapies may help support healthy childhood development.
The gut-brain connection continues to reveal fascinating insights into human health.

đĻ´ Medical Science Update
Scientists at Stanford Medicine have discovered a promising new treatment that may help damaged knee cartilage grow back naturally.
In studies on older mice, researchers found that blocking an aging-related protein helped:
â
Regrow knee cartilage
â
Reduce arthritis after ACL-like injuries
â
Improve movement and joint function
Even human cartilage samples from knee replacement surgeries showed early signs of regeneration after treatment.
đ Why is this important?
Osteoarthritis affects millions of people worldwide, and current treatments mainly focus on pain relief or joint replacement surgery. This new approach targets the actual cause of cartilage damage instead of just the symptoms.
Researchers believe future treatments could one day:
đ Restore damaged joints with medicine
đ Reduce the need for knee or hip replacement surgery
Although human trials are still needed, this could become a major breakthrough in arthritis treatment and regenerative medicine.

â Medical Science Update
Your daily coffee or tea habit may do more than keep you awake.
A large long-term study involving more than 130,000 healthcare professionals found that moderate caffeine intake may help reduce the risk of dementia as people age.
đ Researchers observed that:
â
2â3 cups of coffee daily was linked to up to 35% lower dementia risk
â
1â2 cups of tea daily also showed protective benefits
â
Moderate intake worked better than excessive caffeine consumption
Scientists believe caffeine may help by:
đ§ Supporting brain signaling chemicals
đ§ Reducing inflammation
đ§ Helping protect against harmful amyloid plaque buildup linked to Alzheimerâs disease
However, researchers also noted:
â Too much caffeine may negatively affect sleep and anxiety
â More caffeine does not necessarily mean more protection
The key takeaway?
â Moderation may be one of the simplest habits for long-term brain health.

đ§Ŧ Medical Science Update
Scientists have discovered a promising new way to target harmful âzombie cellsâ linked to cancer and aging.
These cells, called senescent cells, stop dividing but continue releasing harmful substances that may:
â Help cancer spread
â Damage nearby tissue
â Increase inflammation
â Contribute to aging-related diseases
Researchers found that these cells rely on a protective protein called GPX4 to survive. By blocking this protection, new experimental drugs were able to force the cells into self-destruction.
đ In mouse studies, removing these âzombie cellsâ helped:
â
Reduce tumor size
â
Improve survival
â
Potentially support chemotherapy and immunotherapy
Scientists believe this could become an important future strategy in cancer treatment and age-related disease research.

đ§Ŧ Medical Science Update
Researchers at the University of British Columbia have discovered how plants naturally produce mitraphylline, a rare compound with promising anti-cancer potential.
đŋ Mitraphylline is found in very small amounts in tropical plants like:
âĸ Kratom
âĸ Catâs Claw
Scientists identified two important enzymes that help create the compoundâs unique structure â solving a mystery researchers had been trying to understand for years.
Why is this important? đ¤
â
Mitraphylline has shown anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activity
â
The discovery may help scientists produce the compound more sustainably in the future
â
Could support development of new cancer-related treatments and pharmaceutical research
