ULAB Launches Faculty Training Series on AI in Higher Education

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), in collaboration with the Office of Faculty Research (OFR) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), launched a faculty training series on artificial intelligence in higher education on June 18, 2026. Held at the ULAB campus, the initiative aims to help faculty members effectively integrate AI into teaching, learning, and academic practice. ULAB Vice Chancellor Professor Shamsad Mortoza inaugurated the programme, which attracted over 30 academics from the university.

Addressing the participants, Professor Mortoza emphasised the importance of maintaining human agency in the age of AI. “We need to keep our human agency alive. We cannot become slaves to AI; we have to remain masters of it,” he said. He also encouraged faculty members to adapt to the rapidly changing educational landscape.

The first session, titled “Teaching with AI: Pedagogical Shifts, Possibilities, and Challenges in Higher Education,” was facilitated by Iram Mehrin, Senior Lecturer at the Center for Language Studies (CLS). The session explored how artificial intelligence is transforming higher education and examined the opportunities, challenges, and ethical considerations of AI use in the classroom.

An interactive “Fact vs Myth” Kahoot game introduced participants to key AI concepts and misconceptions. The session also featured demonstrations of generative AI tools, comparisons of Claude and NotebookLM, and practical applications of prompt engineering. Faculty members actively participated in discussions and shared their perspectives on the future of AI in education.

The training series will continue over the next three weeks with sessions on AI-powered educational tools, academic content and media production, and the future of higher education, including learning analytics, intelligent academic ecosystems, research, academic writing, and publication.

How can AI and digital tools truly support linguistic inclusion in education?
A new study published in AI in Education (MDPI) explores how digital learning environments — from mobile-assisted learning to AI-powered platforms — can operationalize multilingualism policies and support the social integration of migrant students in Europe. Drawing on European policy frameworks and the Greek context, the research proposes a four-phase model connecting political commitment, pedagogical practice, technological design, and social participation.
